Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Yes — owners give it 5/5, which points to very strong satisfaction with the truck overall. The review summary repeatedly highlights power, reliability, and luxurious features, and it also calls out the smooth ride and excellent performance for towing and hauling. That makes it a strong fit if you want a heavy-duty pickup that still feels more upscale than many rivals. With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive price.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary emphasizes reliability, trouble-free ownership, and confidence in the truck’s long-term performance, alongside praise for power and smooth operation. That said, used heavy-duty trucks can accumulate wear in ways that are not always obvious at first glance, so you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how the truck has been used. For a used buyer, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that looks strong on paper but has hidden wear from towing, hauling, or deferred upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

At 64.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for electrical systems, transmission behavior, infotainment operation, and signs of rust or uneven bodywork. Because this truck is often used for demanding work, focus on overall condition and evidence of consistent maintenance rather than mileage alone.

If you find a listing below $32,204, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $32,204 sits slightly below last year's $33,848.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened enough to create a better entry point for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner satisfaction, a premium feel, and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities, the 2016 is the primary path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented truck you can find, since condition and history matter a lot in this segment.
