CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Fusion

Summary
With 1,585 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,801, 26.3% of 2016 Ford Fusions for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Fusion 4.1 / 5 stars.
57.7% of 2016 Fusion models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Fusion stands out as a midsize sedan that blends sharp styling, strong road manners, and a roomy cabin. Ford’s second-generation Fusion was overhauled for the 2013 model year, and by 2016 it still offered the qualities that made the car appealing in the first place: capable handling, plenty of space, and a broad range of powertrains. Buyers could choose from gas engines, hybrid versions, and available all-wheel drive, giving the Fusion a flexibility that many rivals did not match.
For 2016, the Fusion also benefited from the broader improvements Ford made during the generation. The car had a decent reliability record, and the gas models were described as the most trouble-free. The 1.5-liter EcoBoost was noted as the best-economy gas engine, returning up to 27 mpg combined, while the cabin offered 38.3 inches of rear legroom and a 16 cubic-foot trunk. Owners also tended to value the smooth ride, comfort, and generous standard equipment, though some shoppers may find the car less deluxe than its price suggests and may want to keep an eye on acceleration in certain models.

Nice features. But, the vehicle lacked acceleration power. It seemed to run sluggish.

Just unhappy with the malfunctioning rearview camera on our 2016 Ford fusion titanium.. Sounds like there should be a recall for our year of 2016 and others for the Ford fusion.

Good vehicle. Changing from 2018 GMC SUV AWD/4wd SUV to a 2 year older vehicle that does not have: AWD/4WD Towing package Bose Speakers Rear controls for radio & climate 8” ground clearance 3rd row seats V6 engine with the same mpg The strengths of the Fusion are; Price, looks clean & not rusty It is a vehicle “I wish I could afford when this Fusion was built”. Consumer Report recommended it. Great price if it last the “life of the loan”. My wife now has the “big vehicle”, so I have the option to get a smaller vehicle.

Is the 2016 Ford Fusion reliable?
Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also leans toward reliability, with drivers describing the car as dependable and noting that the gas models are the most trouble-free. That matters if you want a used sedan you can count on for everyday driving rather than one that demands constant attention.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure you avoid a poorly maintained example, since condition can vary across listings.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Fusion?
At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks promising. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s features and drivability match the seller’s description.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Fusion?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.
- Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,574 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,803, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $8,807 sits slightly below last year's $9,375.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can limit near-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, the current discount may help you buy at a more favorable entry point, which can improve your ownership math over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $8,380, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,807 average.
- It emphasizes distinctive styling and strong overall appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2016 is the stronger primary choice because it combines a lower current price trend with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If your top priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in clean condition and like its styling-focused appeal.
