How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 7.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,099 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.6/5 user rating, and our experts rate it 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its zippy performance, stylish design, and plenty of interior space. That lines up with the Escape’s use-case appeal as a compact crossover that blends agile handling, comfortable seating, and everyday practicality. It also stands out for buyers who want a well-rounded small SUV rather than a one-note commuter.

The market backs up that appeal, with 31.4% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable and trouble-free enough to recommend, with praise centered on its overall value and day-to-day livability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Escape has improved over time and remains a strong all-around choice in its segment.

Ford’s own commentary on the model notes that reliability scores quite high, which helps offset some of the long-term concerns tied to earlier issues. For used buyers, that means the main ownership risk is less about the core package and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been well maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on the practical details owners mention most often, especially the gas flap and tight driver-side space, since those can affect everyday satisfaction. If you’re comparing multiple listings, condition and maintenance history should matter more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium trim adds keyless entry and ignition, an 8-way power front passenger seat, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, a power liftgate with foot sensor, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and ambient interior lighting.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. SE and Titanium trims use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four with 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost brings 240 hp and 270 lb-ft for the strongest performance.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, MyKey parental controls, antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and the system was later slated to gain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Technology Package and upper trims also bring upgraded audio and navigation-related equipment.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6-liter EcoBoost gets 23/32 mpg with FWD and 22/29 with AWD, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost returns 22/30 mpg with FWD and 21/28 with AWD. The base 2.5-liter engine is rated at 22/31 mpg.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value entry point, and it already gives you useful standard equipment like blind-spot monitoring, a rear-view camera, and MyKey. It’s the trim to choose if you want the lowest-cost way into the Escape, but the base engine is the least compelling part of the lineup.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger-feeling feature set with 17-inch alloys, fog lights, automatic headlights, satellite radio, and the 1.6-liter EcoBoost. If you want the sweet spot between price and everyday equipment, this is the one to target.
• Titanium: This is the most upscale choice, with keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate, upgraded audio, and more comfort features. It makes sense if you want the most polished Escape experience and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that the Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,099 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,815, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $8,815 sits slightly below last year's $9,548.

That decline suggests the model has softened in the used market, which can be a disadvantage if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, lower entry pricing can help attract more shoppers when you eventually list it, especially if your vehicle is clean and well documented. If you buy carefully and keep maintenance records, you can improve your odds of standing out in a value-conscious segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The 2016 Ford Escape earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in side crash tests. It also receives a Poor result in the IIHS small-overlap frontal-offset test, even though moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, roof-strength, and whiplash protection tests all score Good.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, MyKey parental controls, and a full suite of airbags. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist. The main caveat is the poor small-overlap result, so you should weigh that carefully if crash protection is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Sync 3 and stronger tech appeal while keeping the Escape’s agile, comfortable character.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,118, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,815 average.
• It emphasizes easy living, fuel-conscious practicality, and a more upscale feel.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,228, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,815 average.
• It brings a refresh with improved functionality, updated tech, and added safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and broad market availability, the 2016 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is the better choice if you want the refresh and can pay more.
