How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 7.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,053 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its zippy performance, stylish design, and plenty of interior space. That lines up with the Escape’s role as a compact crossover that blends agile handling, stout engine options, and comfortable seating, making it a strong fit if you want a well-rounded small SUV rather than a one-note commuter.

Good and great deals account for 31.6% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable enough to recommend for everyday use, with praise centered on performance, style, and interior space. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Escape’s composed and responsive character, which supports the case for a vehicle you can count on in regular driving.

Ford also notes that the Escape has a good chance of weathering earlier negative impressions and recovering resale strength over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that early issues can still affect confidence and future value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings with similar prices. Focus on overall condition, because the Escape’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether its features still work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights and fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium adds keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate with foot sensor, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, and more comfort and convenience equipment, so it is the best-value choice if you want the richest feature set.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, while the 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four delivers 178 hp and 184 lb-ft with better gas mileage. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost is the strongest option at 240 hp and 270 lb-ft, and it reaches 60 mph in just 7 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, with the Technology Package adding HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist. The package is not standard, so you should confirm whether a listing has it.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and the system was later slated to gain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Titanium trim also brings a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6-liter engine returns 23/32 mpg with FWD and 22/29 with AWD, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost delivers 22/30 mpg with FWD and 21/28 with AWD. The base 2.5-liter engine is rated at 22/31 mpg.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it already includes useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Escape, but it is the least appealing choice if you care about comfort and convenience features.
• SE: This trim adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights and fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio, plus the more efficient 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. It is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it balances equipment, efficiency, and price.
• Titanium: This is the most feature-rich version, with keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate with foot sensor, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, and more upscale convenience features. Choose it if you want the most polished Escape experience and are willing to pay more for it.

The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but it is not standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,053 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,968, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $8,968 sits slightly below last year's $9,745.

That softer pricing suggests the Escape is still in a buyer-friendly phase, which can be good news if you’re shopping now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. A lower current market average can limit upside for future resale unless the vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The Escape earns an overall 4-star rating from NHTSA, with 4-star ratings for overall front tests and 5-star ratings for overall side tests. It also received Good ratings in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof-strength IIHS tests, but a Poor result in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full suite of airbags, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but that package is not standard. The small-overlap frontal-offset result is the main caution for used buyers.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for agile handling, stout engine options, and the new Sync 3 infotainment system.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,290, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,968 average.
• It is a friendly, approachable family crossover with a more upscale side.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,362, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,968 average.
• It adds a mid-cycle refresh with improved functionality and user-friendliness.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the right pick if you want the Escape’s strong mix of performance, comfort, and updated tech at a softened market price. If your priority is spending less, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want newer features and can stretch your budget, the 2017 is the more updated alternative.
