CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 1,596 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,349, 30.1% of 2016 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Edge 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
65.8% of 2016 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Edge stands out because Ford gave the Edge Sport a performance-focused identity in a family-oriented crossover. The expert test drive data says Ford was building out a “Sport” sub-brand for its larger cars and crossovers, and that the Edge Sport arrived shortly after the Explorer Sport. It also notes that the Edge Sport uses a standard twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is the key reason it is positioned as a more performance-minded choice.
That performance angle is the main differentiator, but the broader appeal of the 2016 Ford Edge still comes through in owner feedback. Drivers commonly praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, along with the technology and features available, including AWD and the sound system. The main drawbacks mentioned are road noise and minor electronic glitches, so while it has a strong mix of comfort and capability, it is not entirely free of refinement issues.

The Ford Edge I bought was the titanium trim, so its absolutely loaded with features. The biggest surprises for me was that the rear seats are heated as well, and that the leather seats are some of the comfiest non- luxury brand seats Ive sat on. The V6 also offers enough power, abs the transmission is smooth through the gears. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and the ride of this vehicle.

How much does the 2016 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,377 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,228.34 |
| Year-Round High | $12,179.32 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,181 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.61% |
Prices have softened 6.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,601 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $11,228.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 4.45/5 user rating and 8.5/10 expert rating point to a model that resonates with shoppers and testers alike. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling. They also like the technology and features, especially AWD and the sound system.
In use, that makes the 2016 Edge a strong fit if you want a family-oriented crossover with a more aggressive personality than the usual commuter SUV. The market also shows 30.1% good or great deals, which suggests you can still find attractive pricing if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, which are the kinds of traits that usually support confidence over time.
The expert drive notes that Ford did a good job isolating noise, vibration, and harshness, and the drivetrain feels well sorted in everyday use. That said, some owners mention road noise and minor electronic glitches, so you should pay close attention to how the electronics behave on a test drive.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether a specific example has been maintained and kept free of annoying faults.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Edge?
At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, brake feel, and whether the electronics behave cleanly, since those are the kinds of issues that can separate a good example from a frustrating one.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Edge Sport stands out with standard all-wheel drive, a twin-turbocharged V6, adaptive steering, and a sport-tuned setup, while the broader lineup includes less aggressive versions with fewer performance-focused touches.
- Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Ford’s safety suite includes 911 Assist, MyKey, forward camera, semi-autonomous parking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and Brake Support, but automatic emergency braking is not included.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touch display, faster response, improved voice recognition, swipe and pinch-to-zoom functions, smartphone projection for Apple and Android devices, and Wi-Fi software updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test recorded 19.7 mpg over a week, and the official combined estimate is 20 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point if you want the Edge’s basic size and utility at the lowest price, but it is the least equipped version and leaves out the Sport’s performance hardware and richer feature content.
- SEL: This trim adds more equipment than the SE and is the better middle-ground choice if you want a more complete everyday setup without jumping to the top of the range.
- Titanium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel and stronger feature content without paying Sport money.
- Sport: This is the one to buy if you want the most distinctive Edge experience, with the twin-turbo V6, standard AWD, adaptive steering, and the most performance-focused character.
Ford’s safety tech is broad, but the lack of automatic emergency braking is an important gap to keep in mind across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Edge?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,601 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.61% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,228.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $11,377 sits slightly below last year's $12,181.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge safe?
It earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s safety suite includes 911 Assist, MyKey programmable features, forward camera, semi-autonomous parking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and Brake Support. The system is broad, but automatic emergency braking is missing, and that’s a notable gap for a vehicle in this class.
The expert review also flags the Edge’s less-than-perfect IIHS result and the braking system as concerns, so you should pay close attention to crash protection and brake feel when evaluating a used example.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 adds Sync 3 and standard AWD on the Sport, making it a more polished and more capable version of the Edge.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,431, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $11,377 average.
- It emphasizes a more practical, family-friendly layout with ample cargo room and storage cubbies.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger value play, the 2016 is the better starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly newer model with a more practical everyday focus, the 2017 is the secondary path to consider.
