Used 2016 Dodge Durango for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2016 Dodge Durango cost?

Prices have softened 5.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 906 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Dodge Durango earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

The Durango’s appeal is strongest if you want rear-wheel drive and serious towing capacity in a three-row SUV. Its truck-like character, Sport driving mode, and available V8 power give it more attitude than many family crossovers, while the V6 version still brings useful towing ability and better efficiency. 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which adds some market appeal if you’re shopping carefully.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Durango’s core strengths are its utility, towing ability, and distinctive rear-wheel-drive layout, which help it stand apart from more conventional family crossovers. The V6 setup also pairs with a standard stop/start system this year, and the available V8 gives you a stronger option if you need more muscle. The performance notes point to a capable, straightforward powertrain rather than a complicated one, which is generally a good sign for day-to-day dependability.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that heavier use and higher towing demands can increase wear on brakes, tires, and suspension components.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Durango?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Durango has towing equipment or higher mileage. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because equipment varies a lot by trim, it’s worth confirming the exact content on the specific listing before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT includes 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a load-leveling rear suspension, cruise control, 3-row climate controls, fog lamps, and a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited adds remote ignition, auto-dimming power-folding mirrors, leather, a power passenger seat, second-row heat, LED running lights, driver memory settings, and a secondary USB charge port. The Citadel and R/T sit higher in the lineup with more upscale or performance-oriented content, and the Limited is the best compromise for flair and features.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 3.6-liter V6 with 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. It’s good for about 19 mpg city and 26 highway, and it can tow up to 6,200 pounds. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, reaches 60 mph in around 6 seconds, and can tow up to 7,400 pounds.
• Safety package: The Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, auto HID headlights and wipers, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a cargo cover with net. The Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning and avoidance, plus blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. Those features are not standard on the lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Uconnect 8.4 system uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen. It adds voice controls, satellite radio, emergency telematics, a customizable drag-and-drop menu bar, Siri Eyes Free, and a Do Not Disturb feature. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the V8 is rated at 14 mpg city and 22 highway.

Which 2016 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, Limited, Citadel, R/T, and Rallye.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, but it still brings useful standard equipment like 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a load-leveling rear suspension, and the 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the Durango’s core utility at the lowest cost.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim. It adds remote ignition, auto-dimming power-folding mirrors, leather, a power passenger seat, second-row heat, LED running lights, driver memory settings, and more available tech and convenience features. If you want the best balance of comfort and content, this is the one to target.
• Citadel: This trim leans more upscale, with additional leather, chrome exterior trim, upgraded brakes, 20-inch wheels, front-seat ventilation, an 8-way power passenger seat, and a 9-speaker stereo. It suits you if you want a more premium-feeling Durango without jumping to the V8.
• R/T: This is the performance choice, with the 5.7-liter V8, sport suspension, Nappa leather, performance steering tuning, and the Beats stereo. It’s the right pick if towing strength and stronger acceleration matter most.
• Rallye: This package adds 5 extra horsepower, black 20-inch wheels, and additional body-color trim with a roof-rail delete. It’s mainly for buyers who want a sharper look and a slightly sportier feel.

The Safety/Security & Convenience Group is worth seeking out, especially because some important driver-assistance features are not standard on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Durango?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you have room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 906 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,468, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $13,513 sits slightly below last year's $14,292.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. The Durango’s utility and towing capability should help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a more capable three-row SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango safe?

The Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side impacts, and independent evaluations achieved top ratings in all tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available safety content centers on the Safety/Security & Convenience Group and the Technology Group. Together, they add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, auto HID headlights and wipers, a power-adjustable steering wheel, cargo cover with net, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning and avoidance. A key caveat is that several of these features are not standard on lower trims, so you need to verify equipment carefully on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds a Sport driving mode, fresh wheels, more exterior colors, and stronger R/T equipment.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,893, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,513 average.
• It offers a more family-focused, well-equipped cabin with broader comfort and utility appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and the model still delivers the Durango’s core strengths. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2017 is the cleaner secondary path for buyers who want to compare against a later model year.
