Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with a more modern, usable feel than earlier versions. For you, that means it makes the most sense if you want a durable workhorse with strong towing ability, a comfortable interior, and enough technology to feel current.

The truck’s broad range of body styles and powertrains, plus its improved ride and handling, make it appealing if you need real capability without giving up everyday usability. The cabin can still feel basic compared with some rivals, but the overall package is compelling for buyers who prioritize strength and practicality.

27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is generally described as good when it has been maintained properly. That matters because this is a heavy-duty truck, and used examples often have harder lives than lighter-duty vehicles.

For you, the key takeaway is that reliability depends heavily on how the truck was used and serviced. A well-kept example can be a solid long-term ownership choice, but neglected maintenance or heavy prior use can raise your risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any evidence that the truck has been worked especially hard, since heavy-duty trucks often lead demanding lives.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $32,466 sits slightly below last year's $35,245.

For you as a future seller, that suggests the market has cooled compared with a year ago. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned to protect value, but the recent price decline also means you should be realistic about near-term resale upside.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.88% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2016 Silverado 3500HD is a strong choice if you want heavy-duty capability, a more modern feel, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented truck rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
