Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. Owners consistently praise its towing and hauling capability, heavy-duty performance, and overall build quality, while many also appreciate the features it offers. For your use case, that makes it a strong fit if you want a capable used heavy-duty truck with useful tech and a more polished cabin than older work-focused pickups. Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owner feedback highlights the Duramax engine performance, strong build quality, and a generally dependable ownership experience. The recurring praise for heavy-duty capability and durability suggests this truck can be a confident long-term choice if it has been maintained well. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how hard a specific truck was worked before it reached the market.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the frame, suspension, or towing hardware. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear from heavy use, especially if the truck was used for hauling or towing. Pay close attention to overall condition, because owner feedback mentions minor cosmetic issues and wear on used models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,563 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.0% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $28,659 sits slightly below last year's $29,813.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the softer trend means resale gains may be limited unless your truck is especially clean, well-equipped, or lightly used. Strong condition and documented maintenance will matter more if you want to protect value later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,673, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $28,659 average.
• It adds an all-new diesel engine and worksite-focused features.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a strong value play with proven owner satisfaction and a softer price trend. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer-year diesel and work-focused upgrades, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
