CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Summary
With 347 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,995, 23.1% of 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4.45 / 5 stars.
69.7% of 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 stands out as part of the third generation, which brought lighter curb weights, higher towing capacities, and improved mpg thanks to standard cylinder deactivation technology. It also offered a more modern cabin for its time, with Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system available with up to an eight-inch touchscreen display, plus added safety features such as forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems. For buyers who want a full-size pickup that feels more refined than older trucks while still doing the hard work expected of a Silverado, those updates are a big part of the appeal.
This model year also benefited from meaningful equipment upgrades. Improved infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrived in 2016, along with a lane-keeping assist system, and the available eight-speed automatic expanded to the smaller 5.3-liter V8 that year. The Silverado’s lineup remained broad, with regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab body styles paired with short, standard, and long cargo beds, and the High Country and Z71 trims added extra luxury and off-road character. Owners also tend to praise the 2016 Silverado 1500 for its value, reliability, comfortable features, and stability on the road.
There are tradeoffs, though. The third-generation Silverado is widely regarded as the most problematic Silverado 1500 generation, with transmission trouble being the main concern, especially after the eight-speed automatic arrived. Some owners also report concerns about the Chevy Shake issue. Even so, for shoppers who want a capable, well-equipped used full-size truck with strong everyday usability, the 2016 Silverado 1500 remains an appealing choice.
