Generally — the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.47/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.47/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also leans toward dependable everyday use, with comments about confidence in the vehicle during tough conditions and appreciation for its trouble-free comfort and value. The strongest reliability takeaway is that satisfied owners tend to keep using it as a long-term family vehicle, but you should still be cautious because this model year sits within a generation known for serious engine problems. For used buyers, that means ownership risk depends heavily on maintenance history and mechanical condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any mechanical issues that could point to neglected maintenance. Because this model year has known engine concerns, condition and service records matter more than usual.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,257 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.71% compared with last year.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $9,422 sits slightly below last year's $9,993.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make future resale a little more challenging if you buy at the wrong price. If you plan to sell later, your best protection is to buy carefully now and avoid overpaying. A well-kept example with strong documentation should hold up better than one with questionable history or visible wear.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,224, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,422 average.
• It offers straightforward versatility and a tried-and-true family-friendly layout.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2016 is the stronger primary target because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better secondary path since it costs less and still delivers the Equinox’s practical, family-oriented appeal.
