The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro features a redesigned platform that enhances performance and interior quality, along with advanced technology and a variety of powerful engine options.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out in the competitive pony car segment due to its complete redesign, which offers a fresh take on a classic American muscle car. Built on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS, the Camaro boasts improved refinement and handling. The base model features a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower, while the iconic SS variant is equipped with a robust 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers an impressive 455 horsepower. This range of powertrains caters to both performance enthusiasts and those seeking a more economical option.
The interior of the Camaro has also seen significant upgrades, with a focus on ergonomics and technology. The MyLink infotainment system is user-friendly and includes features like Apple CarPlay, enhancing the driving experience. However, some limitations exist, such as visibility issues due to the car's bold styling, which may pose challenges for taller drivers. Overall, the 2016 Camaro combines sporty aesthetics with advanced technology and strong performance, making it an appealing choice for buyers looking for a modern muscle car.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro lands as a strong choice if you want style and performance in a modern pony car package. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling. The Camaro’s complete redesign and more functional cabin also make it feel more modern than the outgoing version, while the overview points to a car that suits buyers who want a thrilling driving experience rather than maximum practicality.
With 28.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride and strong performance over time. The expert write-up also frames the Camaro as a fun, effective compromise for buyers who want daily creature comforts without giving up the character of a performance coupe.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that visibility and usability concerns can make the car harder to live with than the satisfaction score suggests.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, glass, and alignment clues that can reveal prior damage. Because visibility is a known weak point, it also makes sense to test the car in real-world parking and lane-change situations before you buy. Focus on whether the car’s condition matches the seller’s description, especially if you’re considering one of the more heavily optioned examples.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin design is modern and functional, and higher-spec cars add features like customizable ambient lighting, but base cars miss some of the convenience and comfort equipment found on better-equipped versions.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. You can also step up to a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, or the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and transmissions include a 6-speed manual or available 8-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, and the system supports CarPlay. The available head-up display adds useful driving information, including speed, RPM, and navigation prompts.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, and 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, and 23 combined. The V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, and SS.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The 1LT is the entry point, so you give up some of the comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The 2LT is the best value if you want the strongest mix of features and livability, including push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen.
- Premium/top trim: The SS is the performance choice, with the 6.2-liter V8 and the most serious straight-line pace in the lineup.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of the Convenience and Lighting package rather than standard equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,217 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.20% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,021.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,175 sits slightly below last year's $23,456.
That kind of softening suggests the market has moved a bit in buyers’ favor, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar immediately. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong demand for the Camaro’s styling and performance should still help support interest when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with safety features such as StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. As part of the Convenience and Lighting package, features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were all featured on our test car.
The biggest safety caveat is visibility: the Camaro’s thick pillars and limited sight lines are a real drawback, especially when backing out or changing lanes. Even with the available driver-assistance features, you should treat visibility as a meaningful day-to-day limitation.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.20% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It brings a complete redesign with a more refined platform and a modern cabin.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,977, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,175 average.
- It adds the 1LE Track Performance Package for sharper track-focused handling.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a fresh redesign. If you’re willing to pay more for a track-oriented upgrade, the 2017 is the better fit.
