Used 2016 BMW X1 for Sale nearMinneapolis, MN

How much does the 2016 BMW X1 cost?

Prices have softened 4.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 593 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 BMW X1 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

The overview frames this X1 as a major redesign and a compact luxury SUV that still feels polished behind the wheel, even with its front-wheel-drive-based architecture. That makes it a strong fit if you want a small luxury SUV with a more upscale driving character than its size might suggest.

The market also shows 34.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview and expert notes point to a model that was redesigned for 2016 and built on BMW’s Mini platform, but still tuned to feel composed and responsive. The performance writeup also describes the engine as sprightly and smooth once warmed up, with strong low-end torque and well-controlled road noise and vibrations.

The cost-effectiveness notes suggest that many desirable features were optional, so used buyers should pay close attention to equipment levels and overall condition. For long-term ownership, the biggest risk is ending up with a stripped-down example that lacks the features you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW X1?

At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks bodywork, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear. Focus on condition and equipment, since this model could be heavily optioned and some desirable features were not standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive28i is the only trim mentioned, and the base setup leaves out a lot of equipment that many shoppers may expect, including a backup camera, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and lumbar support.
• Powertrain: It uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard, and the engine is described as quick off the line and smooth once warmed up.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance setup includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist are not included.
• Infotainment: The system includes navigation with clear graphics, single-string voice commands, handwriting recognition, an onboard owner’s manual, and a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo. A split-screen display function and telematics such as remote unlocking are also available.
• Fuel efficiency: It is rated at 22 mpg city/32 highway, and the expert test drive recorded 26 mpg over 300 miles.

Which 2016 BMW X1 trim should I buy?

The 2016 BMW X1 is offered in 1 trim level: xDrive28i.

Here's the short version:

The xDrive28i is the trim to focus on because it is the only one explicitly identified, and it already gives you the core X1 experience: the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, standard all-wheel drive, and the sharp driving feel that defines this model year. If you want the best value, shop carefully for a well-equipped example rather than assuming every X1 has the same features, since many comfort and convenience items were optional.

The safety content notes that the X1 earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation and that the available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW X1?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 593 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,465, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $11,736 sits slightly below last year's $12,244.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 safe?

The 2016 BMW X1 earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content says the X1 includes the usual airbags and safety features, plus brakes that automatically dry in the rain and can compensate for fade. It also lists lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and available adaptive cruise control.

A key caveat is that blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist are not included, so you should not assume a fully loaded driver-assistance suite on every used example.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says this redesigned X1 arrives as compact luxury SUV sales are surging and is worth your attention, though “to a point.”

The bottom line: The 2016 X1 makes the most sense if you want this redesigned version’s stronger driving feel, upscale presentation, and current market softness. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the range, but the best move is to prioritize condition, equipment, and a clean history over chasing the absolute cheapest example.
