How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 784 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used examples to compare.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2016 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive range of features. The smooth driving experience and available M sport suspension also come up as recurring positives. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a midsize luxury sedan that still feels engaging while offering premium equipment and everyday versatility. With 35.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Reviewers repeatedly describe it as dependable in the sense that it delivers a smooth, trouble-free driving experience when properly maintained. The feedback also points to strong long-term appeal thanks to its refined power delivery and well-rounded ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is a complex luxury sedan, so maintenance history matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on the drivetrain, electronics, and any features that were optional when new. Focus on overall condition and maintenance documentation, since this model’s complexity can make neglected examples more expensive to own.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can find value if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 784 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,096, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,183 sits slightly below last year's $13,236.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to resell later, the softer current pricing may limit near-term appreciation, but it can also make the car easier to move if you buy well. Strong condition and documented maintenance will matter more than ever when you go to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,970, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,183 average.
• It brings a thoroughly renewed chassis, new engines, and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch for a newer design and want the more modern driving experience, the 2017 is the better secondary path, especially if you prioritize the redesign over upfront savings.
