How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 5.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,068 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, and overall performance. They also call out the spacious interior and advanced features, which make it especially appealing if you want a family-friendly luxury SUV.

That lines up with the MDX’s broader mission: a refined, comfortable, and practical three-row luxury SUV with a more engaging driving feel than many rivals. With 33.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market value to work with.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and worth counting on over time, with many drivers describing it as a great value for the money. The expert review also describes the MDX as having a quality feel that suggests it will last a good, long time.

The ownership picture is still mixed by one recurring concern: transmission shifting. For used buyers, that means the long-term risk is less about the core SUV package and more about making sure the drivetrain behaves properly in real-world driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the transmission feels smooth during normal driving and on hills.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The MDX centers on safety, athleticism, and refinement, but the cabin presentation is described as simple and plain, and the base setup leaves you to decide whether you want SH-AWD or not before adding option packages.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and pairs with a new 9-speed automatic transmission; the setup is designed to improve efficiency, but the transmission behavior is a common concern and can feel less satisfying than the previous 6-speed.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and a road-departure mitigation system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a dual-screen setup, and all models gain Siri Eyes Free compatibility. The Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and a solar-sensing climate control system; the Advance Package adds remote engine start and other comfort features.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the SH-AWD model at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while Advance Package models with Idle Stop rise to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is best if you want the core luxury-SUV experience with strong safety, a 290-horsepower V6, and a comfortable, family-friendly cabin. The available Technology Package is the most useful upgrade if you want navigation, better audio, and more safety tech, while the Advance Package is for buyers who want more comfort features and can live with the transmission tradeoffs.

The safety package note is important: AcuraWatch Plus is available on any version, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,068 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,403, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,403 sits slightly below last year's $15,225.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the MDX still has broad appeal as a refined, safety-focused luxury SUV, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in every single assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It also earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and a road-departure mitigation system. If you want blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, you need the Technology or Advance Package, which also include rain-sensing wipers.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year adds a new 9-speed automatic transmission and keeps the MDX’s strong safety focus, athletic feel, and refined character.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want a well-equipped luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and a softer used-market price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years as well, but the 2016 remains appealing when you find a clean example with the right equipment and a transmission that behaves well on the test drive.

How does the 2016 Acura MDX compare to the 2016 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2016 Acura MDX 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Pilot 7.3/10.

The MDX is the more powerful and more upscale choice, while the Pilot undercuts it on price and offers more listings to shop. The MDX also has the stronger safety score and a slightly better deal share, but the Pilot’s lower average used price makes it the easier value play if you want the same basic family-hauler formula without the luxury badge.
