How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 4.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,026 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, and overall performance. The spacious interior and advanced features also come up often, which makes this a strong fit if you want a family-friendly luxury SUV with room to settle in. The MDX’s broad appeal is reinforced by its refined character and practical use-case as a three-row luxury SUV.

With 36.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with repeated praise for its comfortable ride, overall performance, and value for the money. The expert review also describes the MDX as having a quality feel that suggests it will last a good, long time, and the cost-effectiveness commentary says it has historically been very reliable. That said, transmission shifting is a recurring concern, so used buyers should pay close attention to how the drivetrain behaves on a test drive and during a pre-purchase inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair quality. A careful test drive matters here too, especially for transmission behavior, since shifting concerns are a known owner complaint. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a clean, well-kept example from one that may have hidden issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The MDX is sold with the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system and option packages that change the equipment mix. The base setup is simpler, while higher packages add more comfort, convenience, and safety technology.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and is paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission for 2016. Front-wheel drive is standard unless you choose SH-AWD, and the transmission changes are meant to improve efficiency.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a dual-screen setup, and all models gain Siri Eyes Free compatibility. The Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic reports, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and AcuraLink services.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the SH-AWD model at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. With the Advance Package and Idle Stop, ratings rise to 19 mpg city and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is the only trim, so your decision is really about which option packages you want. If you want the best balance of value and equipment, the Technology Package is the most useful step up because it adds navigation, traffic info, premium audio, and several safety-related technologies. The Advance Package is for you if you want more comfort features such as ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, remote engine start, and parking sensors. The Entertainment Package makes the most sense if you need rear-seat entertainment for family use.

AcuraWatch Plus is available on any version of the MDX, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,026 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,448, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,627 sits slightly below last year's $15,384.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, the softer trend means you should expect some depreciation pressure if you buy now and resell later. Even so, the MDX’s strong owner satisfaction and reputation for value support demand in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in every single assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It also earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus is the key driver-assistance suite, and it adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is reserved for the Technology or Advance Package, so you need to move up from the simplest setup to get that extra coverage.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year adds a new 9-speed automatic transmission and keeps the MDX focused on safety, athleticism, and refinement.

The bottom line: If you want a well-equipped luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and broad family appeal, the 2016 MDX is a solid choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and prioritize the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
