Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Prius stands out for combining utility, comfort, and fuel economy in a way few cars can match. It is also described as much better looking once you’ve passed one and have it in your rear-view mirror, which captures its distinctive styling from a memorable angle. Even though this version of the car is starting to get old, it remains one of the best modes of transportation a person can buy for handling the drudgery of daily living.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the Prius is a practical, efficient choice that can make a lot of sense for everyday use. The main tradeoff is emotional rather than functional, since the car is not presented as especially exciting to drive. Instead, its value comes from the money saved on gas and the way it blends everyday usefulness with comfort.
Owners also commonly praise the 2015 Toyota Prius for its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, comfort, smooth ride, and Toyota’s reliability. Some, however, have been frustrated by the audio system and the bulky center console design.

I have had SUV’s , a high performance BMW, a Lexus Hybrid, but still I find myself 100% satisfied with my 2015 Prius. 2nd one, as I traded it in for my Lexus CT200h. What I really like aside from Toyota reliability, is how smooth and chill my ride is. Unassuming, as I cruise through the streets Los Angeles, never drawing attention, saving on gas, at a point in my life I do not to be flashy and choose calm.

Overall a reliable car. We currently have a 2010 with 213k that has continued to serve us well despite aging. The only nightmare with this car is the bluetooth and audio system. It does not work, it connects for 30 seconds then disconnect or keep saying loading. If this is one of the features you are looking for, do not buy this car, it will drive you insane trying to figure it out. Im surprised that a company like Toyota that makes reliable cars would put out such a sub-par product.

How much does the 2015 Toyota Prius cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,643 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,407 |
| Year-Round High | $12,672 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,713 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +7.94% |
Prices are up 7.94% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 692 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Prius earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, comfort, smooth ride, and Toyota's reliability. In use, that lines up with the Prius’s practical, everyday focus: it is built to make commuting and routine driving easier, not more exciting. The market also shows 29.9% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners also describe the Prius as reliable, and the broader feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience with strong long-term appeal. The expert evaluation reinforces that with language about impressive reliability and dependability, plus the note that Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about day-to-day dependability and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and any signs of prior bodywork or uneven panel fit. Because the Prius is often bought for efficiency and low running costs, a clean, well-maintained example matters more than chasing the cheapest listing.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The trim ladder adds meaningful equipment as you move up, with the lower trims missing some of the convenience and technology features found higher in the range. The base setup is the most stripped-down, while upper trims bring more comfort and tech.
- Powertrain: The Prius uses a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine with an electric drive motor, a CVT, and front-wheel drive. It can run on electricity at low speeds for short distances, and the hybrid setup is tuned more for efficiency than quick acceleration.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Safety Connect is available only on the Prius Four and Prius Five, and the Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. Blind-spot warning is not offered.
- Infotainment: Higher trims add navigation, Entune App Suite, expanded Smart Key functionality, and available premium audio. The Prius Five also gets a heads-up display and advanced voice-recognition technology.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test car returned 41.3 mpg in mixed driving, and the official estimate is 51 mpg city/48 highway/50 combined.
Which 2015 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: Two, Three, Four, and Five.
Here's the short version:
- Two: This is the entry point if you want the Prius experience at the lowest price, but it leaves out the extra convenience and tech features found higher up.
- Three: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds navigation, Entune App Suite, and expanded Smart Key functionality without jumping all the way to the top trims.
- Four: Choose this if you want more comfort and technology, including the available Deluxe Solar Roof Package with a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and Toyota’s Safety Connect service.
- Five: This is the most feature-rich version, with exclusive LED headlights standard and the available Advanced Technology Package adding dynamic cruise control, pre-collision tech, and lane-keeping assist.
Toyota restricts Safety Connect to the Prius Four and Prius Five.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
You should shop selectively, because this is still a seller-leaning market even though there are some good opportunities.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 692 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 7.94% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 54.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,407, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $12,643 sits slightly above last year's $11,713.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which can help support resale if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. The Prius also benefits from steady demand among shoppers who prioritize fuel economy and practicality, which helps keep interest alive in the used market.
At the same time, the model's resale story is not just about efficiency; it also depends on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean history and strong service records should matter a lot if you plan to sell later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius safe?
The 2015 Prius earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick commendation from IIHS.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Safety Connect system includes automatic collision notification and emergency assistance, but it is limited to the Prius Four and Prius Five. The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. A notable shortcoming is that blind-spot warning is not offered.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 7.94% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong fuel economy, comfort, and practicality in a way that still makes sense for daily use.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $15,242, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $12,643 average.
- It brings a new generation with fresh tricks and a more current take on the Prius formula.
The bottom line: If you want the lower-cost path into Prius ownership, the 2015 is the better value and still delivers the core strengths that matter most. If you want a newer-generation version and are willing to pay more, the 2016 is the cleaner upgrade path.
