Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Prius stands out for combining utility, comfort, and fuel economy in a way few cars can match. It is also described as much better looking once you’ve passed one and have it in your rear-view mirror, which captures its distinctive styling from a memorable angle. Even though this version of the car is starting to get old, it remains one of the best modes of transportation a person can buy for handling the drudgery of daily living.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the Prius is a practical, efficient choice that can make a lot of sense for everyday use. The main tradeoff is emotional rather than functional, since the car is not presented as especially exciting to drive. Instead, its value comes from the money saved on gas and the way it blends everyday usefulness with comfort.
Owners also commonly praise the 2015 Toyota Prius for its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, comfort, smooth ride, and Toyota’s reliability. Some, however, have been frustrated by the audio system and the bulky center console design.

I have had SUV’s , a high performance BMW, a Lexus Hybrid, but still I find myself 100% satisfied with my 2015 Prius. 2nd one, as I traded it in for my Lexus CT200h. What I really like aside from Toyota reliability, is how smooth and chill my ride is. Unassuming, as I cruise through the streets Los Angeles, never drawing attention, saving on gas, at a point in my life I do not to be flashy and choose calm.

Overall a reliable car. We currently have a 2010 with 213k that has continued to serve us well despite aging. The only nightmare with this car is the bluetooth and audio system. It does not work, it connects for 30 seconds then disconnect or keep saying loading. If this is one of the features you are looking for, do not buy this car, it will drive you insane trying to figure it out. Im surprised that a company like Toyota that makes reliable cars would put out such a sub-par product.

Is the 2015 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Prius earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, comfort, smooth ride, and Toyota's reliability. In practical terms, that lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a car built to make daily driving easier, cheaper, and more comfortable rather than especially exciting.
The market also shows 30.8% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviews repeatedly point to Toyota's reliability, and owners also describe the car as dependable and satisfying over time.
The expert evaluation reinforces that theme by calling out impressive reliability and dependability ratings, along with very low ownership costs. Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected or abused.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
At 53.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior bodywork so you can separate a clean, well-kept Prius from one that has been repaired after a collision.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Prius is sold in trim levels called Two, Three, Four, and Five. The lower trims are more basic, while higher trims add more technology and convenience features, so base-model shoppers should pay close attention to equipment gaps.
- Powertrain: The Prius uses a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine with an electric drive motor, a CVT, and front-wheel drive. It can run on electricity at low speeds for short distances, and its appeal is centered on efficiency rather than quick acceleration.
- Safety package: The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. Safety Connect is restricted to the Four and Five trims, and blind-spot warning is not offered.
- Infotainment: Prius Three and Persona Series models get navigation, Entune App Suite, and expanded Smart Key functionality. Higher trims can add a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and advanced voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The official estimate is 51 mpg city/48 highway/50 combined, and the expert test returned 41.3 mpg during a week of driving.
Which 2015 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: Two, Three, Four, and Five.
Here's the short version:
- Two: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Prius experience at the lowest cost and can live without the extra convenience and tech features found higher up the range.
- Three: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds navigation, Entune App Suite, and expanded Smart Key functionality without jumping all the way to the pricier trims.
- Four: This trim is a good fit if you want more comfort and tech, and it can be optioned with the Deluxe Solar Roof Package for a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and Toyota’s Safety Connect service.
- Five: This is the most feature-rich version, with exclusive LED headlights and access to the Advanced Technology Package, so it suits you if you want the most equipment and the strongest safety-tech content.
Safety Connect is limited to the Four and Five trims, and the Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with patience and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 688 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.75% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 53.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,394, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $12,683 sits slightly above last year's $11,663.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which can help support resale value if you buy well and keep the car in strong condition. The Prius also benefits from a reputation for efficiency and practicality, which tends to keep it relevant with used shoppers.
At the same time, the model's distinctive styling and acquired-taste appeal can make resale more sensitive to condition, mileage, and pricing discipline. If you plan to sell later, a clean history and strong maintenance records should help you stand out.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius safe?
The 2015 Prius earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick commendation from IIHS.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota offers Safety Connect on the Four and Five trims, and that system includes automatic collision notification and emergency assistance services. The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking.
A key caveat is that blind-spot warning is not offered, and Safety Connect is not available on every trim.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.75% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It remains a practical, efficient choice for everyday use, with comfort and fuel savings as its core strengths.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $15,238, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $12,683 average.
- It brings a new generation with a few fresh tricks and a more evolved take on the Prius formula.
The bottom line: If you want the lower-cost path into Prius ownership, the 2015 is the better value play. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s newer-generation updates, the 2016 is the cleaner upgrade path.
