Summary
With 353 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,628, 30.3% of 2015 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the earliest electric cars to make range, performance, and technology feel genuinely modern. By this point in its first-generation run, Tesla had already built the Model S around a minimalist cabin, a large central touchscreen, and a software-driven approach that set it apart from more traditional luxury sedans. It also remained unusual for offering over-the-air updates, fast-charging capability, and advanced driver-assistance features, all of which helped it feel ahead of its time.
For 2015 specifically, the Model S was in the middle of Tesla’s rolling update cycle rather than a conventional model-year refresh. That year brought a 70 kWh battery pack in place of the phased-out 60 kWh option, along with 329 horsepower and 240 miles of range. Tesla also began phasing out the 85 kWh battery in favor of a 90 kWh pack that offered “Ludicrous” high-performance mode, 762 horsepower, up to 270 miles of range, and between 417 and 691 non-Ludicrous horsepower depending on version. Autopilot hardware also started appearing in late 2014, with software activation arriving in late 2015.
The appeal of the 2015 Model S is easy to understand: it combines strong acceleration, generous interior space, and a long list of available tech and comfort features with the novelty of an EV that helped define the segment. At the same time, buyers should be aware that the car’s build quality was not a strength, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not available, and some owners report concerns about range, battery, and drivetrain issues. For shoppers who value innovation and performance over conventional luxury-car polish, it remains a distinctive used EV.

Car is amazing! My first Tesla. I’m still new the car but so far no issues except no supercharged close by. Installing charger at home this weekend, but would be nice to charge quickly somewhere close to the house. Super fast! Smooth ride!

The Tesla model S is badass! It’s saves me money, goes up in value and is a better more capable car than when I bought it due to updates. Saves me $200 per month on my PG&E bill with the EV2 plan. What I save on gas makes is the equivalent of my car payment. No brained, never buying gas again.

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its capable electric powertrain and overall ownership experience. At the same time, some reviews mention battery and drivetrain concerns, so you should treat long-term ownership risk as something to evaluate carefully on a used example, especially if you plan to keep it for years.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Tesla Model S?
At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on battery health, charging behavior, and drivetrain condition, since those are the areas buyers most often worry about. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a well-kept example from one that may carry hidden ownership costs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 340 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.92% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,675, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $16,675 sits slightly below last year's $17,356.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can improve your odds of holding value better than a neglected example. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Model S with strong owner approval and a softer price than a year ago, the 2015 is a sensible primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
