CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Tesla Model S

Summary
With 320 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,707.00, 32.8% of 2015 Tesla Model Ss for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Tesla Model S 4.33 / 5 stars.
77.5% of 2015 Model S models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the cars that helped define the modern electric vehicle. By this point in its first generation, it had already established the Model S formula of long-range EV capability, a minimalist cabin, and an exterior shaped more by aerodynamics than by fashion. It also remained unusual for its time in the way it blended luxury-car ambitions with software-driven design, making it feel ahead of the curve even as the years went on.
For 2015, Tesla was still evolving the Model S in ways that mattered to buyers. The 60 kWh models were phased out in favor of a new 70 kWh battery pack that delivered 329 horsepower and 240 miles of range. Tesla also started phasing out the 85 kWh option for the 90 kWh battery pack, which offered “Ludicrous” high-performance mode with 762 horsepower, up to 270 miles of range, and between 417 and 691 non-Ludicrous horsepower for the regular and Performance models, respectively. Vehicles also started to be equipped with Autopilot hardware in late 2014, with a software update in late 2015 activating Autopilot features.
What makes the 2015 Model S especially appealing is how much technology and performance it packed into a luxury sedan. Standard equipment included heated front seats, leatherette seating surfaces, a seven-speaker 200-watt audio system, power-adjustable front seats, two USB ports, and the large 17-inch infotainment touchscreen that controlled climate, entertainment, and vehicle functions. It also offered unlimited free supercharging at the Tesla Supercharger network. At the same time, buyers should be aware of the tradeoffs that came with early Model S ownership, including poor build quality and the absence of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Car is amazing! My first Tesla. I’m still new the car but so far no issues except no supercharged close by. Installing charger at home this weekend, but would be nice to charge quickly somewhere close to the house. Super fast! Smooth ride!

The Tesla model S is badass! It’s saves me money, goes up in value and is a better more capable car than when I bought it due to updates. Saves me $200 per month on my PG&E bill with the EV2 plan. What I save on gas makes is the equivalent of my car payment. No brained, never buying gas again.

2015 Tesla Model S Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2015 Tesla Model S prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2015 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,729 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,681.27 |
| Year-Round High | $17,386.85 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,878 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.88% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 319 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $15,681.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 4.33/5 user rating points to a strong overall ownership experience. Drivers consistently praise the performance, the tech features, and the cost savings on gas, while the Model S’s luxury-sedan ambitions and long-range EV capability make it appealing if you want a futuristic daily driver. For you, that means this model year fits best if you value electric driving, a minimalist cabin, and software-driven convenience over traditional-car familiarity. With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary also points to a car that many drivers find reliable, dependable, and trouble-free enough to recommend for long-term use, especially when the ownership experience goes smoothly. At the same time, some owners mention battery and drive-train concerns, so used buyers should think carefully about maintenance history and how the car has been cared for over time. For you, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery and related systems have been well maintained before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report to confirm accident status, title status, and any major repairs or insurance claims. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the battery, drive train, charging behavior, and overall condition, since those are the areas that matter most for an older EV. It also helps to confirm that the car’s charging setup and ownership history fit your daily driving needs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 319 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,681.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $16,729 sits slightly below last year's $16,878.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you're planning to resell later. You are not looking at a sharply weakening price environment, so a well-kept example should still have reasonable buyer interest. Condition will matter a lot, especially for an EV where buyers pay close attention to battery health and overall care.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a 2015 Model S, this year offers a balanced mix of stable pricing, decent deal availability, and strong owner satisfaction. You should focus on the best-maintained example you can find, especially if you want to maximize confidence in battery and drive-train condition. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and shop for the cleanest, best-documented car rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
