Is the 2015 Lexus IS a good car?

The main trade-offs are a tight suspension that can make bumps more noticeable and some complaints about transmission and sound system quality. The overview also makes clear that this is the choice for you if you value driving enjoyment over a softer, more comfort-focused luxury feel.

With 29.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market if you shop carefully.

Is the 2015 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback specifically calls the car reliable, and the review summary also says many owners find it dependable and fuel efficient. On the expert side, the cost-effectiveness commentary says reliability is expected to be better than average for the IS 350, which supports the idea that this model can be a sensible long-term pick when maintained properly.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that some listings may have higher wear or unresolved issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Lexus IS?

At 40.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, suspension behavior, and interior condition. Because this car is meant to feel sporty, pay close attention to how it rides over rough pavement and whether any bumps, noises, or drivetrain quirks show up during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The IS lineup emphasizes a sporty character over traditional luxury, and the source material notes that the F Sport version adds sport seats, while the standard car still rides firmly enough that you will feel road imperfections. That means you should compare comfort and equipment carefully if you are deciding between a more basic car and one with the sport-oriented setup.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 306 hp, and the 8-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels. The expert notes quick, seamless shifting and strong acceleration, while also showing that fuel economy can vary depending on how you drive.
• Safety package: Lexus Enform Safety Connect is included, and the car also offers a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic radar cruise control, and a pre-collision system. Those features are worth confirming on any listing, since equipment can vary by trim and package.
• Infotainment: The IS uses the Remote Touch Interface, and the Navigation Package adds Enform features such as advanced voice command, Siri Eyes Free, App Suite connectivity, and the Enform Remote mobile app. The source material does not mention wireless smartphone charging, so do not assume that feature is present.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive reports 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, with a 22-mpg combined estimate mentioned in the driving commentary.

Which 2015 Lexus IS trim should I buy?

The 2015 Lexus IS is offered in 1 trim level: IS 350 F Sport.

Here's the short version:

The IS 350 F Sport: This is the trim described in the expert material, and it is the one that best matches the car’s sporty mission. It adds sport seats, a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, special tires, 18-inch wheels, and larger brake pads, so it is the right choice if you want the sharpest driving feel and the strongest performance character. It is also the best-value path if you want the full personality of the IS rather than a softer luxury sedan.

The safety content also notes that the car includes Lexus Enform Safety Connect, plus available driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic radar cruise control, and a pre-collision system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Lexus IS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 781 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 40.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,746, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $17,544 sits slightly below last year's $17,729.

That small decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may slightly temper future resale gains if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the current pricing remains fairly stable within the year-round range, which points to a model that is not seeing a dramatic drop in demand.

Because the IS is positioned as a sporty luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction, it should remain appealing to shoppers who want style and driving enjoyment. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment should hold up better than neglected cars with accident records or unresolved mechanical issues.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Lexus IS safe?

The Lexus IS earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a Good rating for moderate overlap frontal impact and side-impact protection levels.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Enform Safety Connect is part of the safety story, and it includes automatic emergency calling in the event of a collision. The car also offers a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic radar cruise control, and a pre-collision system that can prepare the brakes and even apply them to reduce speed before impact.

One caveat is that the IIHS had not completed its full suite of testing in the source material, so you should still verify the specific safety equipment on any used listing you consider.

Should I buy a 2015 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 40.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says these cars are multi-talented sports sedans with high levels of quality and refinement, but little in the way of traditional luxuries.

The bottom line: If you want the sharper, more engaging Lexus IS experience and you can live with the tighter rear seat and firmer ride, the 2015 is a strong buy. If your priority is comfort, space, and quiet, you should look at a different Lexus sedan instead. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2015 still makes sense when you find a clean, well-priced example with the right equipment.
