What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Kia Soul?

At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches what you expect from the trim and options. Because this model is often bought for value, comfort, and personality, you want to make sure the specific car still delivers those strengths in real-world condition.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The loaded test vehicle included leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, LED interior lighting, HID headlights, LED running lights, Smart Key entry, push-button start, a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and ventilated front seats. The base car is described as much more stripped down, so feature gaps can be substantial.
• Powertrain: The Soul uses a 164-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The notes say it feels zippy around town, but more power would still be welcome.
• Safety package: UVO eServices includes 911 Connect with Crash Notification, and the car also adds Speed Alert, Curfew Alert, Geo Fence, and Driving Score features. The notes also say the Soul is unavailable with modern active safety features such as blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, aside from a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: The test car uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Kia UVO eServices, navigation, Bluetooth audio, Pandora Internet radio, Siri Eyes Free, Google Local Search, and smartphone-based destination sending.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert recorded 24.6 mpg in combined driving, with official estimates of 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

That softer pricing suggests the model is still accessible on the used market, which can help future resale by keeping demand broad. Is the 2015 Kia Soul safe?

The 2015 Kia Soul earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, with a Good result in the small overlap frontal-impact test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Soul’s safety tech centers on UVO eServices, including 911 Connect with Crash Notification, which can automatically alert emergency responders after a collision. It also adds Speed Alert, Curfew Alert, Geo Fence, and Driving Score features aimed at helping parents monitor teen drivers.

The main caveat is that the Soul lacks modern active safety features such as blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, aside from a reversing camera. That means the crash ratings are strong, but the driver-assistance roster is thinner than what you may find in newer used vehicles.

Should I buy a 2015 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 stands out for its value-rich mix of personality, tech, and safety ratings.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $6,924, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $7,813 average.
• It blends everyday usefulness with strong personality and tech appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2015 is the better primary target because it combines value, satisfaction, and a well-equipped feel. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 is the sensible fallback, especially if you find one in clean condition and at a meaningfully lower price.
