What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, tire wear, camera function, and overall maintenance quality, since owner feedback mentions concerns in those areas. A clean, well-documented example is the safer bet for long-term satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The 1LT brings a 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, and leather-wrapped steering wheel; the 2LT adds heated front seats, a premium stereo, automatic climate control, and optional leather and navigation; and the LTZ adds rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate. If you want the best value, the 1LT is the most balanced step up from the base model.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, or an optional 3.6-liter V6 with 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. The four-cylinder is the efficiency-first choice, while the V6 is better if you expect more highway driving or towing.
• Safety package: The LTZ includes forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and parking sensors, while higher-tech safety features are also standard on the 2LT and LTZ trims. Every trim except the base L comes with a rear-facing parking camera.
• Infotainment: The 1LT adds a 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, and the system supports Bluetooth streaming with Pandora and Stitcher. The vehicle also offers 4G/LTE hotspot capability, with available OnStar support for connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.4-liter engine is rated at 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, while the optional V6 is rated at 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. AWD versions reduce efficiency further.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Equinox, with the 2.4-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, Bluetooth phone, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and 60/40-split folding rear seats. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and can live without the extra convenience and safety features found higher up.
• LS: The LS adds satellite radio with a 3-month trial and some body-colored exterior panels, so it is a modest step up rather than a major upgrade. It is best for buyers who want a little more polish without moving far up the price ladder.
• 1LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and available 18-inch wheels. If you want the most useful mix of comfort and tech without overspending, this is the trim to target.
• 2LT: The 2LT builds on the 1LT with heated front seats, a premium stereo, automatic climate control, and optional leather and navigation. It suits you if comfort features matter more than keeping the purchase price as low as possible.
• LTZ: The LTZ is the most feature-rich version, adding rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate, with optional 19-inch wheels, leather seats, and rear-seat entertainment. It is the right pick if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package trims are the 2LT and LTZ, which carry the higher-tech driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,793 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,037, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $8,037 sits slightly below last year's $8,705.

That softer pricing suggests the Equinox is in a buyer-friendly phase, which can make it easier for future sellers to compete on value. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be able to limit depreciation pressure better than someone who overpays today. The broad supply of listings also means resale will likely depend heavily on trim, condition, and maintenance history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The Chevrolet Equinox received a 4-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including a 5-star rating for side impact crashes and 4 stars for front and rollover crashes. Similarly, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Equinox a Good rating in all categories—small and moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Equinox comes standard with 4-wheel antilock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, daytime running lamps, driver and passenger airbags with side-impact bags, and head curtains up front. It also includes rear child-seat latches and good outward visibility, which help with everyday family use.

Higher-tech safety features such as frontal-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and parking sensors are standard on the 2LT and LTZ trims, while every trim except the base L comes with a rear-facing parking camera.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says it is a popular family crossover with a tried-and-true approach, but it falls short of rivals in features and fuel economy.

The bottom line: The 2015 Equinox makes sense if you want a familiar, versatile crossover and you find a clean, well-priced example. If you are especially price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and broad inventory make it worth considering; if you want more modern features or stronger efficiency, you may want to compare nearby model years before deciding.
