Why it stands out
The 2014 Subaru Outback is a standout choice for buyers seeking a reliable and versatile vehicle. Known for its all-wheel drive capability, the Outback excels in various driving conditions, making it a practical option for those who enjoy outdoor adventures or live in areas with inclement weather. This model year features upgraded standard equipment and a reputation for long-term durability, which resonates well with owners. While it may lack some luxury features found in competitors, its spacious interior and safety features are frequently praised. The Outback's handling and performance, combined with its strong safety ratings, make it a solid choice for families and individuals alike. The owner is very forthcoming with information about the vehicle, and make test driving it as easy as possible. The car appears to be in good shape and is being offered at a good price. It steers, corners, accelerates, and brakes well, as long as you are familiar with stick shift. However, I did not find the sweet spot in the manual transmission in my test drive that the owner refers to in the ad. It felt a bit more loosely coupled than I expected, given this. Still, it seems to be a good car.

I have a 2014 2.5i manual transmission And I absolutely love it. It has more power than I thought and I average about 30 -33 miles to the gallon on the highway. I can’t say enough about this car. I feel safe and I love the suspension and how it drives. I got this car specifically to take on long trips to the mountains. I’ve been in the process of researching camper conversion kits for the Outback. So far it’s ability to navigate over rough terrain is awesome. The biggest feature for me was the manual transmission that is only about $1200 to fix vs. a CVT auto transmission upwards of 6000. The radio is somewhat outdated but I can overlook that based on the value and other features of this car

2014 Subaru Outback Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2014 Subaru Outback prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Subaru Outback cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,165 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,125.85 |
| Year-Round High | $9,888.10 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,888 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.31% |
Prices have softened 7.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,222 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $9,125.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Subaru Outback a good car?
Yes — the 4.67/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its reliable performance, safety features, and upgraded standard equipment, and many also value its handling and all-wheel drive capability. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a practical vehicle for varied driving conditions, outdoor use, or family duty. 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Subaru Outback reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The review summary also emphasizes reliable performance, long-term durability, and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with dependable all-wheel drive capability adding to its appeal. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior maintenance and condition are solid, since that matters more as mileage and age build up.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Subaru Outback?
At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection and pay close attention to overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership. Because this model is valued for durability and all-weather usefulness, you want the best-maintained example you can find.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Subaru Outback?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and focused.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,222 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,125.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Subaru Outback's resale value?
The current average of $9,165 sits slightly below last year's $9,888.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-kept example. If you plan to sell later, condition, maintenance history, and accident-free status will matter a lot in protecting value. Strong demand from shoppers who want a practical, capable wagon-like vehicle can still support resale if your Outback is clean and well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,157, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,165 average.
- It brings a larger cabin and a more refined design.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction remains high. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package, the 2015 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize added space and refinement over upfront savings.
