Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note a good car?

Generally — the 4.33/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.67/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

That lines up with the expert take that it’s well suited to city driving and daily commuting, with an attractive assortment of options.

The market also looks reasonably accessible, with 24.9% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for everyday commuting, with fuel efficiency and comfort coming through as recurring strengths.

The expert evaluation adds that the car’s operation is efficient, and the cost-effectiveness notes mention that it can be loaded with useful equipment without pushing far beyond its price class. That said, used buyers should still plan for long-term ownership risk tied to below-average reliability expectations and verify maintenance history carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Versa Note?

At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, repairs, and wear items. Because this car is often bought as a commuter, condition matters more than mileage alone, especially if you want the efficiency and comfort owners praise.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, with a 5-speed manual, steel wheels, cloth upholstery, and a simple 4-speaker audio setup. The S Plus adds a CVT, cruise control, and active grille shutters, while the SV brings more everyday convenience with Bluetooth, power accessories, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SL Package and SL Technology Package add the most equipment, including a rear-view camera, alloy wheels, push-button ignition, navigation, and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.
• Powertrain: The redesign replaced the older 1.8-liter engine with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder making 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. CVT-equipped models are rated at 31 mpg city/40 highway/35 combined, and the car is described as efficient but underpowered, especially when you need quick acceleration or stronger highway merging.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes 6 airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control. The rear brakes are drums rather than discs, and the available camera and parking aids are tied to higher equipment packages.
• Infotainment: The available tech ranges from a basic 4-speaker CD system to a 4.3-inch audio display and, on the upper package, a 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system with voice control, Google Send-to-Car, hands-free text messaging, and a 360-degree Around View Monitor. Bluetooth is included on higher trims, but voice recognition is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: CVT-equipped models are rated at 31 mpg city/40 highway/35 combined, and the expert review recorded 35.5 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2014 Nissan Versa Note trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Versa Note is offered in 4 trim levels: S, S Plus, SV, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the cheapest way into the Versa Note, but it’s very bare-bones. You get the manual transmission, steel wheels, cloth upholstery, and a basic audio system, so it makes sense only if price matters above all else.
• S Plus: This is the better low-cost pick if you want an automatic, since it adds the CVT and cruise control while keeping the car affordable. It’s the most sensible value choice for buyers who want to stay near the entry price without giving up convenience.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds Bluetooth, power windows and locks, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, giving you the most useful everyday upgrades without jumping into the pricier packages.
• SL: This is the trim to choose if you want the most equipment, especially with the available packages. It brings the richest feature set, including the camera and navigation upgrades, but it makes the car less of a bargain than the SV.

The safety equipment is solid across the lineup, but the rear drum brakes and the lack of published IIHS ratings are worth keeping in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Versa Note?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer, with enough inventory to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 233 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note safe?

The 2014 Nissan Versa Note earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact crash tests and four-star rollover protection, but only three-star protection in frontal crash testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan includes 6 airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control. A notable shortcoming is that rear disc brakes are not fitted; the car uses drums in back instead. Higher trims and packages add useful driver aids such as a rear-view camera and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Versa Note or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It was fully redesigned, bringing better efficiency, more interior space use, and a wider range of features.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It adds the SR and SL trims, which bring more personality and extra equipment.

The bottom line: The 2014 is the better pick if you want the lowest-cost path into a practical, efficient hatchback and are willing to shop carefully for condition. If you want more equipment and a little more personality, the 2015 is the better alternative, but it’s less compelling if value is your top priority.
