Is the 2014 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Nissan Rogue earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, excellent fuel mileage, and user-friendly nature. They also describe it as a good value with features that feel strong for its age. In practical terms, that lines up well with the Rogue’s role as a compact crossover aimed at everyday usefulness rather than flash.

The model’s broad appeal is strongest if you want a practical, easy-to-live-with crossover with a value focus. It also lands in a market where 30.2% of listings are good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Nissan Rogue reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this generation was newly redesigned, so condition and maintenance history matter more than assumptions based on the previous model.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Rogue?

At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on bodywork, safety equipment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model was offered with a wide range of safety and convenience equipment, you’ll want to confirm that the specific listing still has the features you expect. Pay close attention to how the vehicle presents in person, since condition can vary meaningfully from one listing to another.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Rogue S, Rogue SV, and Rogue SL each bring different equipment levels, and the base setup is the most stripped-down. The SL adds leather seats with Quick Comfort heating, a navigation system, a premium Bose audio system, a power rear liftgate, fog lights, 18-inch aluminum wheels, heated exterior mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators, and Around View Monitoring. The SV sits in the middle and can be equipped with more safety tech through packages.
• Powertrain: You get a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The setup is tuned for efficiency and everyday use, with a Sport mode and Hill Descent Control on AWD models.
• Safety package: The Rogue includes a reversing camera and a hands-free text-messaging assistant, while the SV adds smart automatic headlights. The optional Premium Package on the SV adds a navigation system, Around View Monitor, Lane-Departure Warning, Blind-Spot Warning, and Moving-Object Detection. Forward-Collision Warning is available only on the SL with its Premium Package.
• Infotainment: NissanConnect is standard on the SV and SL trims. It includes smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth calling, and a hands-free text-messaging assistant. The system uses a 7-inch screen on the SL with navigation, and the available Around View Monitor adds useful parking visibility.
• Fuel efficiency: The redesigned Rogue is EPA-rated at 28 mpg regardless of drivetrain choice. The expert review also recorded 24.4 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2014 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Rogue is offered in 3 trim levels: Rogue S, Rogue SV, Rogue SL.

Here's the short version:

• Rogue S: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Rogue. It gives you the core crossover package, but you give up much of the convenience and safety tech that makes the higher trims more appealing.
• Rogue SV: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds NissanConnect and can be equipped with the useful safety and convenience package. If you want a balanced mix of price, features, and everyday livability, this is the trim to target.
• Rogue SL: This is the most upscale version, adding leather, heated front seats, navigation, Bose audio, a power liftgate, and Around View Monitoring. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience equipment, but it costs more and cannot be paired with the third-row seating option.

The safety-package setup is trim-dependent, and the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the SV and SL with the right package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,332 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,676, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $8,826 sits slightly below last year's $9,044.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale performance will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and feature content rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should be easier to move than rougher, lower-spec listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2014 Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS for all trims, and the Rogue SL with the Premium Package earns Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and a hands-free text-messaging assistant, while the SV adds smart automatic headlights. The available Premium Package on the SV adds a navigation system, Around View Monitor, Lane-Departure Warning, Blind-Spot Warning, and Moving-Object Detection. Forward-Collision Warning is reserved for the SL with its Premium Package.

One caveat is that the reversing camera is described as low-resolution, so you should not rely on it as your only parking aid.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 brings a full redesign with available advanced safety equipment at a reasonable price.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $9,505, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $8,826 average.
• It carries forward the redesigned look with a more polished, mature appearance.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer example, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider, but the 2014 already delivers the core redesign benefits and strong safety appeal.
