What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

At 46.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal how well the car was repaired and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5 trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features like cruise control, a power driver’s seat, more speakers, passive entry, dual-zone climate control, a touchscreen, a reversing camera, leather, heated seats, and premium audio.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 hp and is paired with a CVT, while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 270 hp and adds quicker acceleration at the cost of fuel economy.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Those features are not part of the base setup.
• Infotainment: Most versions use NissanConnect Apps with a 5-inch touchscreen, while the navigation system adds a 7-inch display. Wireless smartphone integration is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 returns 31 mpg in combined driving, while the 3.5 returns 25 mpg in combined driving. In testing, the 2.5 achieved 28.5 mpg on a heavy suburban cycle.

Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5: This is the entry point, but it’s the least equipped version and is best only if your priority is the lowest possible price.
• 2.5 S: This is the better starting point because it adds cruise control, a power driver’s seat, more speakers, and passive entry.
• 2.5 SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the touchscreen, reversing camera, dual-zone climate control, and more convenience features without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
• 2.5 SL: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused four-cylinder version, with leather, heated seats, heated steering wheel, premium audio, and more upscale touches.
• 3.5 S: Pick this if you want the V6’s extra power and don’t mind giving up some fuel economy.
• 3.5 SV: This adds more convenience and comfort equipment on top of the V6, including a sunroof and additional upscale features.
• 3.5 SL: This is the top V6 trim and adds high-intensity discharge headlights to the already well-equipped SL setup.

The Technology Package is available on SV and SL trims, and it adds navigation plus blind-spot, lane-departure, and moving-object warnings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,454 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 46.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,557, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $7,697 sits slightly below last year's $8,102.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

Because the year-over-year change is negative, a clean, well-kept example should hold up better than a rough one. If you plan to sell later, choosing a desirable trim and keeping maintenance records will matter more than usual.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2014 Nissan Altima earns a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. The Lane-Departure Warning system can be switched off, and the blind-spot system is helpful but not especially forceful in its alerts.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 46.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
• The 2014 is safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, even if it isn’t especially engaging to drive.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,177, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,697 average.
• It adds more responsive handling.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2014 if you want the lower price and a practical, comfortable sedan with broad appeal. If you’re willing to spend more for a more engaging drive, the 2015 is the better path; if price matters most, the 2014 makes more sense.
