Is the 2014 Nissan Altima reliable?

The expert notes also point to better-than-average dependability over time, and the car’s efficient 4-cylinder and CVT combination helps keep running costs in check. The ownership-cost commentary adds that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

That said, some owner feedback points to repairs and mixed reliability impressions, so a used example with a clean service history is the safer long-term bet.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

At 46.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, because the Altima’s value proposition depends heavily on getting a clean, well-kept example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add conveniences like power-adjustable seating, better audio, dual-zone climate control, and more upscale interior touches.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 hp and is paired with a CVT; the available V6 adds more power and quicker acceleration, but at the cost of fuel economy.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds a navigation system, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims.
• Infotainment: Most versions use a 5-inch touchscreen with NissanConnect Apps, while the navigation-equipped setup uses a larger 7-inch display.

Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point if you want the Altima’s core strengths at the lowest price, and it adds useful everyday equipment over the base car, including cruise control, a power driver’s seat, extra speakers, and Nissan Intelligent Key.
• 2.5 SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the most meaningful comfort and tech upgrades, including 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, satellite radio, and NissanConnect Apps.
• 2.5 SL: Choose this if you want the most upscale 2.5-liter version, with leather seats, a Bose audio system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more premium interior details.
• 3.5 S: This is the choice if you want the V6’s extra power and paddle shifters, but you do not need the higher-end comfort features.
• 3.5 SV: This trim combines the V6 with more convenience and luxury equipment, including a power sunroof and additional upscale touches.
• 3.5 SL: This is the top trim, adding high-intensity discharge headlights to the already well-equipped V6 SL.

The Technology Package is available on SV and SL trims, and it adds navigation plus blind-spot, lane-departure, and moving-object warnings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you have room to be selective if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,434 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 46.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,543, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $7,630 sits slightly below last year's $7,986.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim than to age alone.

If you keep the car well maintained and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position to protect value. Clean examples with desirable equipment are likely to stand out more than average ones.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2014 Altima gets a 5-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology Package adds a navigation system, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Those features can meaningfully improve awareness, though the blind-spot system is described as less effective than it could be.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 46.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• The 2014 Altima is safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,185, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,630 average.
• It adds more responsive handling and a more well-rounded driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and a practical, efficient sedan, the 2014 is the better value play. If you can spend more for a newer model with stronger handling balance, the 2015 is the better upgrade path.

How does the 2014 Nissan Altima compare to the 2014 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2014 Nissan Altima 7.8/10 and the 2014 Toyota Camry 7.5/10.

The Altima gives you a lower average used price, better city and highway fuel economy, and a stronger expert score. The Camry costs more on the used market, but it has a slightly higher share of good and great deals and a slightly better accident-free share. If you want the cheaper, more efficient option, the Altima is the better fit; if you want to compare against a pricier rival with a broader market, the Camry remains a strong benchmark.
