Why it stands out
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a sporty premium sedan with a split personality. Properly equipped, it can feel dramatically more energetic than its mild-mannered appearance suggests, and it can be a blast to drive. That combination of understated styling and stronger performance potential is a big part of its appeal.
At the same time, the MKZ is not an easy car to overlook for all the right reasons. Its many idiosyncrasies may make it difficult to make an impact in a highly competitive market, even though it offers the kind of luxury-oriented character buyers in this class often want. Owners also praise its comfort, reliability, spacious interior and trunk, along with its luxurious touches and smooth driving experience, which helps round out its strengths.

How much does the 2014 Lincoln MKZ cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,234 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,547 |
| Year-Round High | $9,441 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,447 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.25% |
Prices have softened 2.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 193 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Lincoln MKZ earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and excellent features, along with the spacious interior and trunk, luxurious touches, and smooth driving experience. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a sporty premium sedan that can feel much more energetic than its styling suggests, especially if you want a luxury-oriented car with a stronger driving personality.
With 30.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with praise centered on comfort and the kind of ownership experience you can count on. The expert review also notes that J.D. Power says it should prove more reliable than the average luxury car, which reinforces that impression.
Lincoln also includes a maintenance perk in the ownership discussion: the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that luxury-car ownership costs can still run higher than you might expect, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Lincoln MKZ?
At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with premium features or all-wheel drive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment you want actually works as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard car includes leather, dual-zone climate controls, 10-way power heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen display, 18-inch wheels, and an adaptive suspension. The Select Package adds a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and interior lighting, while the Reserve Package adds navigation, a power-operated trunk, ventilated front seats, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert.
- Powertrain: You can choose a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, a 300-hp 3.7-liter V6, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that should average 38 mpg. All-wheel drive is available with the turbo and V6 powertrains.
- Safety package: The Reserve trim package is the minimum path to blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with active braking. Rear parking-assist sensors require the Select package, and rear seatbelt inflatable cushioning airbags are also tied to Select or higher.
- Infotainment: The MKZ uses an 8-inch touchscreen display, and the touch-sensitive controls take some getting used to. The system can respond slowly at times, and the review notes delayed input and occasional pauses.
- Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost AWD test car was rated at about 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, while the hybrid powertrain should average 38 mpg.
Which 2014 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 2 trim levels: MKZ and MKZ Hybrid.
Here's the short version:
- MKZ: This is the one to focus on if you want the standard gas model with the broadest performance range. It can be paired with the turbocharged 4-cylinder or the V6, and it’s the trim family that supports the sportier setup described in the review. If you want the best-value path into the model, this is the trim to start with.
- MKZ Hybrid: Choose this if fuel economy matters most and you want the gas-electric powertrain that should average 38 mpg. It’s the efficiency-focused alternative in the lineup.
The safety-package note to keep in mind is that several key driver-assistance features require stepping up from the base setup, with the Reserve package needed for the most important active-safety content.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Lincoln MKZ?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 193 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.25% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,547, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $9,234 sits slightly below last year's $9,447.
That tells you the market has softened, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average usually means future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out, especially in a segment where shoppers have alternatives.
The good news is that the model’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time. Cars that earn repeat praise for comfort, reliability, and features tend to hold buyer interest better than similarly priced rivals with weaker reputations.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ safe?
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also gets a three-star rating for driver-side impact protection.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ’s safety equipment is spread across the trim walk, so you need to pay attention to packaging. A reversing camera requires the Select package, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with active braking require the Reserve package at minimum. Rear seatbelt inflatable cushioning airbags are also available only with Select or higher.
That means the car can be well equipped for safety, but not every important feature comes standard. If safety tech matters to you, verify the exact package content on any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2014 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.25% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It’s been awhile since Lincoln made an impression with a sporty premium sedan, and this year’s MKZ can be a blast to drive while still offering luxury-oriented comfort.
The bottom line: The 2014 MKZ makes the most sense if you want a stylish premium sedan with strong owner satisfaction, a softer used-car price, and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the current market gives you room to wait for a cleaner example or a better deal, but you should still prioritize condition and package content over mileage alone.
