CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Kia Forte

Summary
With 282 currently listed for sale and an average price of $6,822.00, 24.1% of 2014 Kia Fortes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Kia Forte 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Kia Forte stands out as a much more complete and competitive small car than its predecessor. It brings together style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech in a package that can sit alongside the best in the segment, while its interior aesthetic is described as head-of-the-class. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want an everyday car that feels more polished than a basic commuter.
It is also presented as a practical choice for daily driving, with a layout and functionality that support that role well. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for reliability, fuel efficiency, comfort, and a spacious trunk. The main drawback noted by owners is a lightweight feel that can bring extra noise and a sense of fragility, so the Forte’s strengths are balanced by some concerns about refinement.

The car is a good, perhaps, great value. It runs well, is comfortable, is not noisy. The radio is acceptable quality but not great. The controls for everything are easy. It is a bit of a tin can. You can hear the lightweightness when you slam a door or pop the hood. But this is probably how it gets good gas mileage. The clear cut on mine is starting to bubble in small places; however, it does not have rust that I can detect on the body. Overall, Im happy with it.
2014 Kia Forte Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2014 Kia Forte prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Kia Forte cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $6,901 |
| Year-Round Low | $6,485.56 |
| Year-Round High | $7,277.09 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,280 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.21% |
Prices have softened 5.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 258 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and condition.
If you find a listing below $6,485.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Kia Forte earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfort, and they also like the spacious trunk. That lines up with the car’s practical, everyday use case: a compact that feels more polished than a basic commuter while still being easy to live with.
With 29.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, along with strong fuel efficiency and comfort. The expert drive notes also frame the Forte as a more complete and competitive small car, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable daily driver.
The main used-car risk is that some examples may have seen harder use, so condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Forte?
At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision. Focus on body alignment, panel gaps, tire wear, and any signs that the car has been repaired after impact. Because this is a compact that owners describe as lightweight, you should also pay attention to road noise and overall refinement during the test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the simpler version, while the EX adds a more upscale interior presentation and more features. The LX also misses the UVO infotainment system.
- Powertrain: The base LX uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque, while the EX uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. The smaller engine returns 25 mpg city/37 highway with the manual or 25/36 with the automatic, while the 2.0-liter returns 24/36.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams and a tire pressure monitoring system.
- Infotainment: Bluetooth is standard, and UVO is standard on the EX but unavailable on the LX. The system uses a color touchscreen and supports voice-activated navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The base 1.8-liter engine achieves 25 mpg city/37 highway with the manual transmission and 25/36 with the automatic. The 2.0-liter EX returns 24/36, or 27.8 mpg combined.
Which 2014 Kia Forte trim should I buy?
The 2014 Kia Forte is offered in 2 trim levels: LX and EX.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX is the value play, but it lacks UVO infotainment and uses the less powerful 1.8-liter engine.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX is the better all-around choice because it adds the stronger 2.0-liter engine, UVO, and a more upscale cabin without a big fuel-economy penalty.
The EX also gets the more polished interior presentation, while the LX is the simpler, more basic version. If you want the most complete used Forte experience, the EX is the one to target.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Kia Forte?
The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 258 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.21% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 49.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $6,485.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Kia Forte's resale value?
The current average of $6,901 sits slightly below last year's $7,280.
That softer pricing suggests the Forte has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays loose. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you can help protect your exit value later. Strong feature content and broad appeal can support demand, but condition will matter a lot in this price band.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte safe?
The Forte earned a Good rating for side impact, roof strength and moderate frontal offset tests from IIHS, but it also received a Poor rating for small-overlap frontal offset crashes. IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The small-overlap result is the key caveat for used shoppers, so you should pay close attention to crash history and repair quality on any example you consider.
Should I buy a 2014 Kia Forte or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 brings a more complete package with style, space, efficiency and in-car tech.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $7,355, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,901 average.
- It adds more available equipment, but its main crash-test weakness remains.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and the car is well liked by owners. If you are willing to pay more for a newer example, the 2015 may appeal, but the extra cost does not erase its core drawback.
