CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 280 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,929, 28.9% of 2014 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda CR-V 4.68 / 5 stars.
59.3% of 2014 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact crossover that leans hard into the qualities buyers usually want most: space, efficiency, and dependability. It belongs to the fourth generation, which brought more interior room for cargo and up to five passengers, along with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 185 horsepower and EPA-rated highway fuel economy that reached 30 mpg. That combination helps explain why the CR-V has long been known for comfort, versatility, reliability, and value.
For 2014 specifically, the CR-V’s appeal is rooted in its straightforward setup and useful equipment. Buyers could choose LX, EX, or EX-L trims, and all-wheel drive was available. The generation also featured a reconfigured flat-folding rear seat, which replaced the earlier fold-and-tumble design. Owners’ feedback lines up with that practical mission, with praise for the roomy cabin, good fuel economy, and reliability.
The tradeoff is that the 2014 CR-V is not the most exciting compact SUV to drive. The source describes these fourth-generation models as fairly basic apart from the 2015-2016 Touring, and notes that they are not very exciting behind the wheel. Even so, that simplicity is part of the CR-V’s charm: it is a sensible, long-lived used SUV that focuses on doing the everyday jobs well.

Honda or Toyota are the best and most reliable cars in the world. I have had many different models and have put 450 to 600 thousand kms on all of them with no major issues.

How much does the 2014 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,894 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,133 |
| Year-Round High | $13,126 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,712 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.43% |
Prices are up 1.43% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 3,260 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 4.68/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, spacious interior, and good fuel economy, and many also appreciate the available AWD and backup camera features. That lines up well with the CR-V’s practical, easy-to-live-with role as a compact crossover built around space, efficiency, and everyday usefulness. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights reliability, and it also describes the CR-V as dependable and good for long-term use. That said, some drivers mention transmission maintenance concerns, so you should pay close attention to service history and overall condition before buying. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is skipping maintenance on a vehicle that depends on consistent care.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda CR-V?
At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because some owners mention transmission maintenance concerns, service records matter just as much as cosmetic condition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,260 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.43% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 58.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,133, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $12,894 sits slightly above last year's $12,712.
That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well, which can help support resale confidence if you buy carefully. Because the price range is fairly tight, a well-kept example should remain easier to position competitively when you decide to sell. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand steady for used examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.43% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,436, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,894 average.
- Honda says the 2015 changes make it better than ever.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2015 is the better secondary path for buyers who want to stretch their budget for an updated version.
