CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 3,272 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,831, 32.3% of 2014 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda CR-V 4.68 / 5 stars.
57.3% of 2014 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact crossover that leans hard into the qualities buyers usually want most: space, efficiency, and dependability. It belongs to the fourth generation, which brought more interior room for cargo and up to five passengers, along with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 185 horsepower and EPA-rated highway fuel economy that reached 30 mpg. That combination helps explain why the CR-V has long been known for comfort, versatility, reliability, and value.
For 2014 specifically, the CR-V’s appeal is rooted in its straightforward setup and useful equipment. Buyers could choose LX, EX, or EX-L trims, and all-wheel drive was available. The generation also featured a reconfigured flat-folding rear seat, which replaced the earlier fold-and-tumble design. Owners’ feedback lines up with that practical mission, with praise for the roomy cabin, good fuel economy, and reliability.
The tradeoff is that the 2014 CR-V is not the most exciting compact SUV to drive. The source describes these fourth-generation models as fairly basic apart from the 2015-2016 Touring, and notes that they are not very exciting behind the wheel. Even so, that simplicity is part of the CR-V’s charm: it is a sensible, long-lived used SUV that focuses on doing the everyday jobs well.

Honda or Toyota are the best and most reliable cars in the world. I have had many different models and have put 450 to 600 thousand kms on all of them with no major issues.

| Year-Round High | $13,118 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,677 |

There are 3,250 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and condition.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — 4.68/5. Owners consistently praise its reliability, spacious interior, and good fuel economy, and many also appreciate the available AWD and backup camera features. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a practical compact crossover that emphasizes everyday usefulness, comfort, and value over excitement. With 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a vehicle that many drivers feel comfortable counting on over time. That said, some owners mention transmission maintenance concerns, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and overall mechanical condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda CR-V?
At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, alignment, tires, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision issues. You should also focus on maintenance records and overall condition, especially if you want a CR-V that will stay dependable over the long run.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda CR-V?
This is a moderate market, so you can buy selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,250 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.12% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 57.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,140, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $12,819 sits slightly above last year's $12,677.
That modest increase suggests the market still values this model year’s practicality and reputation. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should have a reasonable chance of preserving value better than with a less in-demand used SUV. Strong pricing also helps support future resale if you maintain service records and avoid accident history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.12% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,294, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,819 average.
- Honda says it is better than ever with changes that improve the overall package.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider, especially if you want the updated package and can stretch your budget.
