The overview points to a developed second-generation design with a higher-strength steel frame, a new suspension system, rear-wheel drive standard, available four-wheel drive, and a wide range of cab, bed, and trim choices, so you have flexibility to match the truck to your needs. Is the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD is described as a more developed version of this heavy-duty truck, but the overview also flags several condition-sensitive concerns. Gas models can have EGR-related issues, diesel versions may struggle to start in cold weather because of glow plug failure, and fuel leaks, transmission shifting problems, and worn suspension, brake, and electrical components are also noted. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well the truck was maintained and whether those problem areas have already been addressed.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put extra inspection priority on the truck’s mechanical condition, especially the transmission, suspension, brakes, electrical systems, and, depending on engine choice, cold-start behavior or EGR-related concerns. A careful test drive and a pre-purchase inspection can help you separate a solid truck from one that may need expensive catch-up work.

If you find a listing below $23,887, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $24,337 sits slightly below last year's $25,842.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has lost some value over the past year, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and maintenance history than to the model year alone. A clean, well-documented truck should hold up better than one with visible wear or unresolved mechanical issues.

Should I buy a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2014 makes sense if you want a heavy-duty truck with a broad configuration range and you can verify condition carefully. If you’re price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the newest badge.
