Is the 2014 GMC Acadia reliable?

The expert review also describes it as a pleasant choice for highway driving, with a smooth and quiet ride that supports everyday confidence. GM’s 2-year, 24,000-mile maintenance plan adds some early ownership convenience, including scheduled checkups, oil changes, and tire rotation.

A few owners mentioned power steering issues, so a used example should be checked carefully for service history and any signs of steering or maintenance neglect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 GMC Acadia?

At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, steering feel, and evidence of consistent maintenance, since owner feedback and expert commentary both point to a few ownership concerns. If you’re shopping for a family SUV, it’s worth paying extra attention to how the cabin features and safety equipment line up with the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Acadia starts at $35,410 and climbs through 4 trim levels before reaching the loaded Denali. The base SLE-1 misses the front center airbag, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as chrome trim, larger wheels, and more premium equipment.
• Powertrain: You get one engine, a 3.6-liter V6 with 288 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are the only drivetrain choices, and the review notes that the transmission can feel sluggish.
• Safety package: The Acadia includes OnStar with automatic 911 assistance and stolen-vehicle tracking, plus a backup camera. Forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning are optional on the SLT-1 and SLT-2 and standard on the Denali, while blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are standard only on the SLT-2 and Denali.
• Infotainment: The system includes a reconfigurable home screen, Bluetooth streaming audio, Pandora access, HD radio, USB connectivity, live traffic, weather alerts, voice recognition, and an optional rear-seat flip-down LCD screen with DVD player. The review also highlights a 10-speaker Bose 5.1 Surround Sound system on the tested vehicle.
• Fuel efficiency: The Acadia is rated at 16 mpg in the city and averages close to 23 mpg on the highway in testing.

Which 2014 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2014 GMC Acadia is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE-1, SLT-1, SLT-2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE-1: This is the entry point, but it leaves out the front center airbag, so it makes the most sense only if you’re focused on keeping the purchase price down and are willing to accept fewer features.
• SLT-1: This is the trim that starts to balance comfort and equipment better, and it’s the one to target if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top.
• SLT-2: This is the best-value trim if you want more of the Acadia’s safety tech, since blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are standard here.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the most upscale equipment and the full safety suite, including forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning as standard.

The safety package is not evenly spread across the lineup, so if advanced driver-assistance features matter to you, you’ll want to shop above the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 GMC Acadia?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 754 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,975, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $7,976 sits slightly below last year's $8,896.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since buyers will likely compare your vehicle against a fairly broad pool of similarly priced listings. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should stand out more than average ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2014 GMC Acadia earns top ratings from the government and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Acadia includes a front center airbag that deploys from the driver’s seat as a secondary side airbag, and it’s standard on every Acadia except the base SLE-1. OnStar with automatic 911 assistance and stolen-vehicle tracking is standard, as is a backup camera. Forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning are optional on the SLT-1 and SLT-2 and standard on the Denali, while blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are standard only on the SLT-2 and Denali.

Should I buy a 2014 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a plush, carlike three-row SUV with a semi-luxury feel, smooth highway manners, capable brakes, and broad trim versatility.

The bottom line: The 2014 Acadia makes sense if you want a comfortable, upscale-feeling three-row SUV and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you’re more price-sensitive, the softened market and broad inventory make this a good year to compare closely against other listings before you buy.

How does the 2014 GMC Acadia compare to the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

Our experts score the 2014 GMC Acadia 7/10 and the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse 7.7/10. The Traverse is the slightly stronger value play, with a lower average used price and a better expert score, while the Acadia leans more upscale and polished. Both share the same accident-free share and similar inventory levels, so your decision comes down to whether you want the Acadia’s more premium feel or the Traverse’s lower cost.
