overall

Summary
With 654 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,760, 28.1% of 2014 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Dodge Durango 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Dodge Durango stands out as a rugged, substantial SUV with a body that feels carved from a single block of steel. That toughness is part of its appeal, but it is not the whole story: this version is also described as stylish, safe, roomy, refined, and technologically sophisticated. For buyers who expect a Durango to be only an old-school utility vehicle, that combination of strength and polish is what makes it distinctive.
It also has the kind of everyday appeal that matters in a family SUV. The available owner feedback points to a spacious interior, strong power, and a comfortable ride, along with a smooth Uconnect system and materials such as leather seats. At the same time, the main drawback is hard to ignore: leading auto industry research firms give it unfavorable reliability and cost-of-ownership predictions, and some owners report reliability concerns with the engine and climate control systems.

Bought new, and luv my Durango, 206k miles later. No major repairs needed until recently. Has the famous Dodge Ticking sound, lifters need replacing I’m told. And transfer case needs replacing, because truck gears grind or something during takeoff if accelerating too fast. Besides those two things, can’t think of anything besides Normal wear and tear. 10 years later and I Still luv my Durango.

How much does the 2014 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,747 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,443 |
| Year-Round High | $11,531 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,493 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.49% |
Prices have softened 6.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 650 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Dodge Durango earns a 4.45/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked SUV with broad appeal. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, strong power, and comfortable ride, and they also call out the smooth Uconnect system and quality materials like leather seats. In practical terms, that lines up well with the Durango’s family-SUV mission: you get room, refinement, and everyday usability rather than just rugged looks.
At the same time, the market context matters. Only 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may take some searching.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many people find dependable in daily use, with praise centered on comfort, power, and the kind of ownership experience you can count on for family duty. That said, some owners report reliability concerns with the engine and climate control systems, so you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important.
The expert evaluation also describes the Durango as refined, durable, and capable of handling rough roads with confidence, which supports the idea that it can feel solid over time when it has been cared for properly. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term risk is that repair exposure may be higher than you’d want if the previous owner skipped maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Durango?
At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. After that, pay close attention to the cabin, electronics, and climate-control operation, since those are the kinds of areas where used-SUV ownership can become expensive if something has been neglected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SXT is the most stripped-down version, while the SXT Plus adds a 12-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio. The Limited adds leather seats, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, dual USB charging ports, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded sound system, remote start, a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, and more. The R/T adds a V8, performance steering, a sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, and 20-inch wheels, while the Citadel layers on premium leather, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, navigation, and additional luxury touches.
- Powertrain: The Durango is offered with a 3.6-liter V6 making 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the available 5.7-liter V8 adds more muscle and higher towing capability. The 8-speed automatic helps the SUV feel smooth and responsive, and Eco mode is tuned to keep revs low for better efficiency.
- Safety package: Trailer Sway Control is standard, and the available Technology Group adds Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection, and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation. The Limited can also be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection.
- Infotainment: The Durango uses an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with a responsive layout and large controls, and Uconnect Access adds connected services. The system supports Bluetooth pairing, music streaming, and hands-free calling, and the top Citadel includes a 7-inch configurable center display.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 18.2 mpg, and the EPA estimate for that AWD setup was 19 mpg. The Durango is also described as better on fuel than a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse and a 2014 Ford Explorer in the same test context.
Which 2014 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T, and Citadel.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Durango’s core space and capability at the lowest starting price. It is the trim to consider if you plan to keep things simple and add only the options you truly need.
- SXT Plus: This is the better-value choice if you want a more complete daily driver, because it adds a 12-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio. It is the trim that most clearly improves the base experience without jumping into luxury pricing.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers because it adds leather seats, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, remote start, and parking aids. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, tech, and convenience, this is the one to target.
- R/T: Choose this if you want the sportiest setup, since it comes with the V8, performance steering, a sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, and 20-inch wheels. It suits you best if driving character matters more than value.
- Citadel: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with premium leather, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, navigation, and extra chrome and upscale trim details. It makes sense if you want the most upscale Durango experience and are willing to pay for it.
The Limited and higher trims are the ones that most clearly benefit from the available safety and convenience upgrades, especially the driver-assistance package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 650 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,443, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $10,747 sits slightly below last year's $11,493.
That decline suggests the Durango has been moving in a buyer-favorable direction, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may pressure future resale if the trend continues. For a seller, softer pricing usually means you need to be realistic about asking price and condition if you want to move the vehicle quickly.
The good news is that the Durango’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango safe?
The 2014 Dodge Durango earns four-star ratings in frontal-impact driver protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also earns a Good rating in IIHS crash testing, except for the small-overlap frontal-impact test, which had not been assessed at the time of the review.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango includes Ready Alert Braking, Rain Brake Support, and Trailer Sway Control as standard equipment. The available Technology Group adds Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection, and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, while the Limited can also be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers and automatic high-beam headlights.
One important caveat is that the IIHS small-overlap frontal test was not assessed in the review material, so you should not assume full coverage there when comparing it with newer rivals.
Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 stands out for its stylish, roomy, refined character and its strong technology score, which makes it especially appealing if you want a well-equipped family SUV.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and tech in this year range, the 2014 is the one to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully and compare condition, equipment, and accident history across nearby model years before you decide.
