How much does the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu cost?

Prices have softened 2.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 776 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, quiet ride, and comfort for family trips. The overview also points to a composed driving feel, with steering that stays tight and sporty at higher speeds while remaining easy to manage in parking and low-speed driving. That mix makes it a practical choice if you want a family sedan that still feels polished behind the wheel.

The market also shows 26.9% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights excellent fuel economy, a quiet ride, and comfort for family trips, while also describing the car as a great value for the price. The expert review adds that the Malibu is well sorted and refined, with a dependable-feeling turbocharged engine and sure-footed behavior in snowy conditions.

It also comes with free factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and warranty-related concerns have been handled before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

At 52.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and any evidence that safety equipment or electronics were repaired after damage. Because some owners mention warranty issues and missing features, it also makes sense to confirm that all equipment works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, OnStar, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and cruise control. The 1LT adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, voice recognition, heated mirrors, and floor mats. The 2LT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. The 3LT is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine. The 1LTZ adds leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats. The 2LTZ adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine. The best-value trim is the 1LT, since it brings the touchscreen infotainment setup without jumping too far in price.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a direct-injected 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 196 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. An available turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and also uses a 6-speed automatic. The standard engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while the turbo engine is rated at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
• Safety package: The Malibu includes 10 standard airbags and earned an overall 5-star rating from NHTSA plus a Good rating in all IIHS tests. Available safety equipment includes rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. Some of those features are not standard, so trim choice matters.
• Infotainment: The MyLink system uses a 7-inch touchscreen on the 1LT and above, with text-message reading and response, iPhone-specific Eyes Free functionality, and app integration such as Pandora and Stitcher. The system is easy to use, and the review notes that pairing a phone is quick and simple.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard 2.5-liter engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is rated at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Malibu trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LTZ, 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics: Bluetooth, OnStar, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and 16-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Malibu, but it is light on convenience and tech.
• 1LT: This is the trim most shoppers should start with because it adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, voice recognition, and heated mirrors. It’s the best-value choice if you want the Malibu’s tech and everyday usability without moving too far up the price ladder.
• 2LT: This trim adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. Choose it if you want a more upscale daily driver and are willing to pay for comfort upgrades.
• 3LT: This version is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine. It suits you if you want the stronger powertrain without stepping all the way to the premium trims.
• 1LTZ: This is the premium-grade trim with leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats. It’s the right pick if you want a more luxurious feel.
• 2LTZ: This trim adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine. It’s the top choice if you want the most content and the stronger powertrain in one package.

The safety package includes available features such as rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, rear-view camera, and forward-collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 776 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,571, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?

The current average of $7,738 sits slightly below last year's $7,935.

That price movement suggests the Malibu has softened enough to help you buy more affordably today, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later. The model’s broad appeal as a comfortable, fuel-efficient sedan should continue to support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and a Good rating in all IIHS tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy equips the Malibu with 10 standard airbags, and available safety features include rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. The review also notes that the forward-collision warning system uses dash-top red lights and audible beeps to alert you without being overly intrusive.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its efficient powertrain, quiet ride, and composed steering, while also offering strong safety results and a well-regarded tech package.

The bottom line: If you want a used Malibu with strong owner satisfaction, good safety, and a price that has eased a bit, the 2014 is a solid target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-deal listings and prioritize cars with clean history reports and complete maintenance records.
