The Diesel trim adds free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership, which helps lower early ownership burden if you choose that version.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age and condition matter more now, so a careful inspection and service-history review are important before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Cruze?

At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a price that looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and maintenance history match the trim level you want. If you are shopping the Diesel, pay extra attention to whether the ownership costs still make sense for your driving pattern.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ, Eco and Diesel. The base LS is the simplest version, while higher trims add features such as a turbocharged engine, leather seating, heated front seats, remote start, a reversing camera, keyless access, push-button start, and larger wheels. The best-value choice is the 1LT if you want the turbo engine and a stronger feature set without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 138-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder, while the 1LT and Eco use a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder with 138 horsepower and stronger low-rpm torque. The Diesel uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder clean diesel engine with 151 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Standard OnStar includes Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist and Emergency Services technology. Available safety equipment includes a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert, with some of those features not included on the base LS.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink brings a 7-inch color touchscreen, USB port, Internet radio access, Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming and hands-free texting. It also supports Siri Eyes Free, and some trims add it while the base LS does not.
• Fuel efficiency: The Diesel is rated at 27 mpg city, 46 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined. The review also notes that the Diesel’s cost-effectiveness depends heavily on the price gap between gasoline and diesel fuel.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Cruze trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, Eco, 2LT, LTZ and Diesel.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the simplest entry point, but it is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. Choose it only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price and you are comfortable with a more basic setup.
• 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine, power mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, cruise control, a dash-top storage bin and 16-inch aluminum wheels.
• Eco: Pick this if fuel economy matters most and you want the 1LT equipment plus aerodynamic and tire changes aimed at improving mileage, along with Chevrolet MyLink and Bluetooth music streaming.
• 2LT: This is the comfort-focused step up, adding leather seats, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, remote start, Chevrolet MyLink, a sport suspension, rear disc brakes and larger 17-inch wheels.
• LTZ: This is the most fully equipped gas trim, with a standard automatic transmission, reversing camera, automatic climate control, keyless passive entry with push-button start, heated outside mirrors, fog lights and 18-inch wheels.
• Diesel: Choose this if you drive a lot of highway miles and want the strongest fuel-economy story. It adds the turbodiesel engine, automatic transmission, a beefed-up electrical system, an auxiliary heater, aerodynamic enhancements and a unique wheel design, plus free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles.

The optional Enhanced Safety Package adds rear parking assist sensors, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Cruze?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,245 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,489, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?

The current average of $6,563 sits slightly below last year's $6,846.

That softer pricing suggests the Cruze has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you are buying now and may limit how much more value it loses in the near term. For a future seller, the current trend means resale will likely depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should be easier to move than rougher cars with accident history or sparse features.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, and IIHS rates it Good in all crash-test assessments except the small overlap frontal impact test, where it is rated Marginal.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes OnStar with Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist and Emergency Services technology, plus 10 airbags. Available driver-assistance features include a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert, though some of those features are not included on the base LS. The Marginal small-overlap result is the main caveat to keep in mind when you are comparing this car with newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its newly optional turbodiesel engine and class-leading fuel economy, which gives it a strong efficiency edge if that matters most to you.

The bottom line: The 2014 Cruze makes sense if you want a used compact sedan with strong fuel economy, good owner satisfaction, and a market that still offers some deal potential. If you are price-sensitive, the 2014 is worth a close look because softened pricing and decent inventory give you room to shop carefully; if you want a newer-feeling Cruze with more modern connected-car tech, a later year may be the better path.
