How much does the 2014 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 2.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,439 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2014 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.79/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the fun driving experience, modern styling, and comfort. The user feedback also points to safety features, fuel efficiency in the diesel model, heated seats, and a spacious interior as recurring positives.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a sports sedan that still emphasizes deft handling, sublime steering, and a refined everyday driving feel. With 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable, with praise centered on the overall driving experience and the sense that it holds up well in daily use. The expert notes also emphasize BMW’s generous no-cost maintenance plan, which includes scheduled checkups and replacements for oil, wipers, brake discs and pads, and other parts.

That said, used buyers should still budget for age-related wear and verify service history carefully, especially because premium-car ownership can become expensive if maintenance has been deferred.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on maintenance records, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: BMW offers four distinct trim lines: Base, Luxury, Sport and M Sport. Sport and M Sport trims add more aggressive body styling, larger wheels and stiffer suspensions, while the base setup is the most straightforward.
• Powertrain: BMW offers 4 engines and 3 transmissions. The lineup includes 2.0-liter twin-turbo 4-cylinder engines in the 320i and 328i, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder in the 335i, and a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel 4-cylinder in the 328d. A 6-speed manual is available in all trims.
• Safety package: BMW Assist eCall is standard, and it can dial 911 after a crash. Standard safety equipment also includes adaptive brake lamps, automatic brake drying in wet weather, and stability control. Blind-spot detection, parking sensors and a basic alarm system are not standard.
• Infotainment: The big color screen shows clear map graphics, and BMW’s iDrive controller is standard. Bluetooth streaming audio and a USB connector are included, while smartphone integration through BMW Apps is available. An automated parallel parking system, head-up display, adaptive cruise control and additional cameras are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: The 328d promises an EPA-estimated 45-mpg-highway rating, while the tester averaged 17 mpg in mostly city driving.

Which 2014 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Sport and M Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the lineup, but you should expect to add options if you want the richer equipment and appearance upgrades that make the car feel more complete.
• Luxury: This trim is the better fit if you want a more upscale presentation without moving all the way to the sportiest setup.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more aggressive styling and a firmer chassis character without going all the way to the top of the range.
• M Sport: Choose this if you want the most aggressive look and the strongest emphasis on performance-oriented appearance and suspension tuning.

BMW’s safety equipment is solid, but features like blind-spot detection, parking sensors and a basic alarm system are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,439 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,798, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $10,074 sits slightly below last year's $10,329.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later.

The model’s broad appeal still helps: shoppers continue to respond to its driving character, premium image, and strong owner satisfaction. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series didn’t fare too well in new small-overlap crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it still gains five overall stars on government crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive brake lamps, automatic brake drying in wet weather, BMW Assist eCall, airbags and stability control. The expert notes also point out that a backup camera is not standard, and blind-spot detection, parking sensors and a basic alarm system are not standard either.

That means you should pay close attention to the specific equipment on any used example, especially if you want more driver-assistance coverage than the base car provides.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It still delivers the classic 3 Series formula of deft handling, sublime steering and silky engines.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,418, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,074 average.
• It shifts to a sedan-only body style and leans harder into the brand’s precise chassis and powerful engine.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s sedan-only focus and slightly newer package, the 2015 is worth a look; otherwise, the 2014 gives you the classic 3 Series experience at a more approachable price.
