CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 57 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,794, 21.1% of 2014 Acura MDX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
80.7% of 2014 Acura MDX listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to be more polished without giving up the athletic character buyers expect from an MDX. Acura describes its driving feel as exacting and finely tuned, meant to deliver the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That balance is a big part of its appeal: it is designed to feel composed and upscale, yet still engaging enough to satisfy drivers who want more than a purely comfort-focused SUV.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more refined and broadly appealing vehicle, even if it is not as visually dramatic. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect. That makes it attractive to shoppers who value a premium driving experience and a more modern overall package over bold styling.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with drivers praising the 2014 Acura MDX for its luxury, comfort, performance, spacious interior, smooth ride, and fuel economy. At the same time, some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models, so it is not without tradeoffs.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

How much does the 2014 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,124 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,038 |
| Year-Round High | $12,898 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,904 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.04% |
Prices have softened 6.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 614 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spacious interior, smooth ride, and fuel economy. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to feel polished and upscale while still keeping the athletic character many MDX shoppers want.
With 37.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers’ feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with repeated praise for its comfort, smoothness, and overall ownership experience. The expert review also describes the MDX as a refined, well-calibrated SUV that feels expertly tuned and built to deliver a luxurious driving experience over time.
The ownership picture is still worth checking closely on a used example, since luxury SUVs can be sensitive to maintenance history and prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and signs of neglected maintenance. Because this is a luxury crossover with a lot of equipment, it also makes sense to test every major feature during your drive and pay close attention to how the cabin, electronics, and ride quality feel in real use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, premium audio, GPS-linked climate control, and several driver-assistance features, while the Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat entertainment and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds the largest screen, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The MDX uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Variable Cylinder Management helps conserve fuel, and SH-AWD is optional if you want the torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive setup.
- Safety package: The Technology Package includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking. Base trims miss much of that driver-assistance content.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, and the upper/lower setup is part of the cabin’s core interface. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, wireless headphones, and video inputs, while the Advance and Entertainment Package replaces that with a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for 21 mpg combined. The review also notes that the engine uses Variable Cylinder Management to help conserve fuel.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the least expensive way into the MDX, but it is also the sparsest on convenience and driver-assistance content. You get the core luxury crossover experience, but if you want navigation, blind-spot monitoring, or more advanced safety tech, you’ll need to move up.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the most important everyday upgrades: navigation, premium audio, keyless access, and a useful set of safety features including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Information.
- Technology and Entertainment Package: Choose this if you regularly carry passengers who will use the rear-seat entertainment system. It builds on the Technology Package and adds the rear-seat DVD setup, wireless headphones, and heated rear seats.
- Advance and Entertainment Package: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the largest screen, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. It makes sense if you want the most comfort and the most advanced safety content.
The safety-package trim note is simple: the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the upper packages, so base-trim shoppers should expect meaningful equipment gaps.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 614 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.04% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,038, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,124 sits slightly below last year's $12,904.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the vehicle well, you’re starting from a lower entry point than a year ago, which can improve your odds of limiting further loss.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The 2014 MDX earns Good ratings in the IIHS moderate overlap frontal-impact test and side-impact test, and its front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Technology Package includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking. Base trims miss much of that advanced driver-assistance content.
One caveat to keep in mind is that the Lane Departure Warning system is described as hyper-active and sometimes inaccurate, so you should test it carefully on your own roads if you’re considering a higher-trim example.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.04% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model is presented as a redesigned, more refined MDX that is better in almost every respect while still keeping the athletic feel buyers expect.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong owner satisfaction, solid expert praise, and a lower average price than a year ago, the 2014 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for the best-condition example and the right trim, since the most useful safety and convenience features are concentrated higher up the lineup.
