Used 2011 Chevrolet HHR 1LT FWD for Sale near Cedar Rapids, IA
4 Overall rating
(1 reviews)Update on the Chevy HHR Previously, I had written a review on my 2011 HHR at 40k. Well, now up to 127K, it is still moving along without any problems. The brake rotor shimmy, after repair returned again. Otherwise, the transmission has not had any slippage or issues. The fluid and filter was changed at 95K and it still shifts smoothly and accurately. Overall long term rating is 4 and 1/2 stars. Too bad Chevy discontinued the model. I am a Ford believer, so please be patient and read on. I purchased the HHR LT as a Certified Chevy with 35K miles. It was purchased for use in transporting business items and the cargo space lived up to its promise. The cargo room is extensive when the rear seats are down. In order to keep items from slipping around in the back however, the slick plastic flooring requires a rubber mat. The ride feels safe and smooth, with adequate acceleration on the freeway and in town. Fuel economy has been stellar at 30 mpg freeway and 26 around town. Instrumentation is fair, easy to read and accurate. I have found that all of the buttons and functions, such as wipers, turn signals, hazards, stereo, heater and defroster meet my expectations. The heater/AC is very good as well as the rear defroster. The stereo system is adequate for AM listeners, but lacks performance for FM, CD and MP3/IPOD. The speakers are inadequate. When purchased as a certified car, I was promised oil changes for the next 12k miles. You would consider oil changes every 5k to be adequate, but as you get into the manual, Chevy uses a maintenance system which tracks revolutions of the engine etc, not mileage. I have put over 5k miles on the vehicle and it still shows that the oil is at 52% life. Really? The manual also states that it is unnecessary to check the trans fluid unless you see leaking and spots underneath the vehicle. No chance it may have issues without leaking? Whoa. The most recent of all are the brakes. I had read on several reviews, that the rotors may warp. True. I drive about 1k miles per week, mostly freeway, and experienced shimmy when braking after about 2k of driving. Now, after 5k, the shimmy is profound. Under the hood is a whole different story. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you found the wrong car. The air filter placement is poor and requires extra effort for replacement. Fluids, such as coolant and wiper fluid are easily accessible. Coolant is Dexcool only, so be sure to stock only compatible pre-mix or full strength. The oil, per Chevy should be Dexos, their own brand and the manual makes some vague reference as to other oils being inadequate. Might this void the warranty. Up to GM. Kind of sketchy. The outside of the vehicle is above average. Well placed and easy to see tail lights, driving lights during daylight hours, along with an automatic headlight system that comes on at the appropriate time to illuminate the road. Intermittent wipers are good and functional, but when using the wiper fluid, they stay on a bit too long, wiping a dry windshield at times. Side mirrors are well placed and offer adequate vision to the sides if the vehicle. The rear hatch opens easily and closes just as well. Overall, based on the price as a used car as well as the MPG etc, I feel that this model is a good buy. Your dollars will be well spent. The avg cost of the HHR as a used car is very low in comparison to many other makes and models of like years etc, Do you get what you pay for, probably. Too early to tell. If you baby the car, provide the vehicle with maintenance and service more often than GM suggests, you will likely have a car which will last well beyond 100K. Not bad GM. Still a Ford believer, F350 Diesel 1996, Fusion 2009 and a 1995 Explorer (356K), but a good choice for many uses and people.
