Overview

Maybach is very obviously a working man’s company producing a working man’s vehicle, with no greater example than the expansive Maybach 62. Why else would they go to so much trouble to produce such a pleasant driving experience for a lowly chauffeur? Sure, the guy behind the optional $24,000 electrotransparent retractable partition is the one who actually owns the vehicle, but the driver is the one who will get to enjoy its 543-hp, 5.5 liter twin-turbocharged V12, height-adjustable air suspension, stability and traction control, and four-wheel antilock disc brakes with dual front calipers.
Okay, okay… the chauffeur doesn’t get to experience the decadence of fully reclining, massaging, heated and cooled rear seats, rear entertainment center, and 21-speaker Bose stereo, or the refrigerator, but due to the automatically closing rear doors, he can at least stay up front when picking up his passengers.
Good thing, too, as the Maybach 62 is the largest production sedan on the market, measuring almost 6.2 meters long (243 inches), from which the vehicle takes its name. Its wheelbase is longer than most cars at 150.7 inches, and it’s almost double the weight of some: 6,300 pounds!
Honestly, though, it’s the S trim that really speaks to the working man, with its 6.0-liter, 604-hp, twin-turbo V12 and 20-inch alloys. Maybach included some features to make sure the owner doesn’t feel left out as well, don’t worry. Carbon-fiber and piano black trim, rear curtains, a panoramic glass sunroof, and even a tissue dispenser should keep the guy quiet. If not, Maybach has said they’ll engineer and install any requested option when you commission a 62, even those not on the option list – no small boast for a catalog that includes a $150,000 GUARD B4 bomb- and bullet-proofing package. Getting shot is certain to ruin at least part of the day for driver and passenger alike, and no one wants that. After all, quiet passengers are happy passengers. Maybach certainly loves the working man.
