About 2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Mercedes-Benz's M-Class midsize SUVs receive a design refresh and a number of new features for 2009. Exterior updates include a larger front grille, reshaped headlights, larger exterior mirrors, a wider rear bumper with integrated reflector strips, and new taillights with smoked glass. Inside, the M-Class SUVs receive a new seat design, a four-spoke steering wheel with redesigned shift panels, and an updated nappa or man-made stitched leather dashboard. New features include an updated COMAND (Cockpit Management and Data) system, with a new multimedia head unit that makes it easier for drivers to control the SUV's audio and video systems, as well as the hands-free phone-calling and optional navigation systems. In addition, the diesel-powered ML320 receives a new, next-generation 3.2-liter BlueTEC V6 turbodiesel engine, which features a system that improves emissions by reducing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust stream. As a result, Mercedes will offer the '09 ML320 in all 50 states for the first time. In addition, the BlueTEC V6 will run on B5 biodiesel fuel. All '09 M-Class SUVs, including the ML350, the ML550, and ML63 AMG, also will include Neck-Pro head restraints as standard equipment, as well as the Pre-safe occupant protection system, which tightens seat belts, adjusts seats to optimal positions, and closes the windows and sunroof to protect the occupants if the system detects a potential accident. Finally, Mercedes offers new wheels for the M-Class vehicles for '09. The M-Class's gas powerplants, including the 268-hp 3.5-liter V6 in the ML350 and the 382-hp 5.5-liter V8 in the ML550, remain essentially unchanged from the previous year, although fuel economy across the line improves slightly, according to Mercedes.
