Picture of 2009 Ford Fusion Despite spy shots revealing a possible hybrid version and rumors hinting at a more powerful 4-cylinder engine, the 2009 Ford Fusion returns unchanged, but for a few extra features and some tweaks to its front grille and exterior lamps. The front-wheel-drive midsize family sedan, touted for its interior room, available AWD option, and low price, merges the sporty platform of the Mazda6 with more practical features associated with a family car. Two big safety additions this year include optional stability control for all three trims and standard traction control on the top-line SEL. Though most of its rivals offer stability control as standard equipment, the 2009 Focus continues to earn high crash-test scores (four and five stars), and the available AWD for the SE and SEL trims adds an extra bit of security. ABS brakes, a tire monitor, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows are also standard. The 2009 Fusion returns with two engine choices. Standard on the base S and midlevel SE is a 2.3-liter inline four that delivers 160 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque. It comes matched with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. Optional on the SE and standard on the SEL is a 3.0-liter V6 that puts out 221 hp and 205 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic is its only transmission. Those seeking more power may wish to wait for the proposed 2.5-liter, 170-hp inline four. The Fusion continues to lag behind its rivals (Accord, Camry) in fuel economy, rating only 20/28 for the inline four and 18/26 for the V6. A hybrid version, based on Ford's hybrid SUVs, appears to be in the works. Both powerplants feel anemic for a midsize sedan, though its Mazda6 platform does increase its fun factor, with responsive steering and handling. Reviewers feel the addition of a manual transmission for the V6 might increase the sporty feel overall. An optional Sport Package adds a sport suspension, larger 18-inch wheels (16-inch are standard), a deck spoiler, two-tone upholstery, and colored foglights. Other new features for the 2009 Fusion include standard satellite radio on SE and SEL trims and standard Ambient Lighting for the SEL. This feature offers a choice of seven colored lights to illuminate foot wells. All trims feature full power accessories, remote entry, and cruise control. The SE upgrades to a 6-CD changer, power driver's seat, and wheel-mounted audio controls, while the SEL gets leather trim and the Sync communication/entertainment interface. The interior of the Fusion offers plenty of adult head- and legroom, with comfortable and supportive seats that sit high for good visibility. The instrument layout can be inconvenient for drivers, forcing them to take their eyes off the road for too long. The rear seats split-fold 60/40, along with a fold-flat front passenger seat to accommodate longer objects that cannot fit in the already roomy 15.8-cubic-foot trunk.

This car has been incredible. Fuel economy is adequate but cruises like its big brother the Crown Victoria. The ride is very smooth, nimble steering and performance makes this car a dream on the road. Braking is more than adequate and is very responsive in wet and dry conditions. The car feels tremendously safe and has a big car feel in a smaller car package. Visibility is adequate. The interior has many positive features along with a good stereo, heater and AC etc, The upholstery is the one drawback in my book. It causes the driver to feel warm and seems to radiate heat to the driver and passengers. The interior is well equipped and does not employ the use of rattle ridden plastics, but uses more fortified materials to avoid that cheap feel. Styling on the exterior is excellent. under the hood, it is easy to replace the air filter and perform your own maintenance as needed. The trunk provides a spacious cargo area providing room for a family to pack and travel for extended periods. Overall, the car is a gem and in my opinion, is a great fit for singles and medium size families. Great for the commuters as well as the weekend users. Buy it. You will not be disappointed.

The inline 4 cyl has the acceleration of a v-6 and I have actually beaten a few cars with v-6s in them. No trouble with the quality of the building. I love the style of it, especially the inside. The seats are nice and comfortable. Gas mileage is great for not being a hybrid and the maintenance is cheap. But I do a lot of the maintenance myself. The car is always fun to drive and I've taken it on a few road trips across the country with my dad on one and friends on another.

This car drives AMAZINGLY! I usually don't let anyone else drive it but when my friends do they immediately say how nice it drives. I have had this car for over a year and racked up almost 20,000 miles on it, driving it on long trips, and it has never let me down. It gets pretty good gas mileage, and it looks SO NICE. Sometimes I see my car in the parking lot and think daaang that is a good lookin automobile - and it is mine!!! (I have the beige/goldish color) the FEATURES are one of the best parts! plug your ipod right in with a usb cord and voice command it what to play. Blue TOoth connect your phone to play through your speakers, hands free without buying the lame looking bluetooth ear set ha ha. My niece is a big part of my life and her car seat fits in but it is kinda tight to have as a family car. The trunk space is legit. My friends don't mind squishing in the back, but if you want a super spacious car get a bigger one. Seriously this is the best car ever. I love it!

By far the best car I've owned so far. I used to say I would never own a Ford car, but the Fusion blew me away. I have the SEL with Sports Apperance Package. Very classy car! I love the exterior design of the car as well as the interior with the black leather seats with red trim. Ambient lighting is awesome at night. The SYNC system is amazing and coupled with the Audiophile sound system the sound quality is incredible. The 18" wheels you get with the Sports Apperance Package really add to the car. I was worried how the V6 would be as far as gas mileage, but I just got back from a road trip and averaged 32 mpg; very happy with that! The V6 engine gives you all the power you need plus more. The Fusion handles terrific; has a ton of trunk space; the fold down rear seats and passenger seat is very useful! I wouldn't trade this car for anything!

I recently purchased this car and so far I am impressed. For a 4cyl it does get up rather nicely. I've had no issues with it. It's not a sports car, but this is a nice car to have. The interior is comfortable and everything is easy to reach.
