Overview
Relatively unchanged since 2008, the 2009 Buick Lucerne returns with a new flex-fuel E85 engine option at no extra cost. The 3.9-liter, 227-hp V6 will be available for all 2009 trims. The only other major changes for 2009 are the addition of Bluetooth and XM NavTraffic and the loss of the CXS trim, which has been absorbed by the power-focused Super.
This roomy full-size sedan offers both a V6 and V8 engine. Both the CX and CXL feature a 3.8-liter, 197-hp V6, while the Super boosts performance with a high-output 4.6-liter, 292-hp V8. Both engines come with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The front-wheel-drive 2009 Lucerne seats five in a standard front bucket seats/rear bench setup, but an optional front bench can squeeze in one extra passenger. Rear seats do not split-fold, but feature an armrest/trunk pass-through to the 17-cubic-foot trunk. Lots of leg and headroom pleases owners looking for luxury comfort.
Base CX trims start with a power driver's seat, cruise control, and a CD player with satellite radio. The CXL adds leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, wood trim, and a navigation system. The Super focuses on safety and performance, with larger 18-inch wheels, parking sensors, remote start, and Magnetic Ride Control, which makes handling adjustments to cut down on body roll. On the outside, it distinguishes itself with a rear spoiler and chrome waterfall grille. All trims offer ABS brakes, traction and stability control, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows.
Although not as powerful as the Chrysler 300, the 2009 Lucerne's V8 engine packs plenty of punch for a full-size sedan. A quiet ride, with more high-end features than similarly priced sedans, makes it an attractive, if somewhat bland, choice for work or family duty. Some downsides include minimal storage space inside the cabin and a wide turning radius.

Buicks have always been a safe and comfortable car for me, but this driver seat really comes close to being as comfortable as my favorite couch. The heated seats and steering wheel are great in the winter. Its only missing the Bluetooth audio ability, but can connect for phone calls.

The lucerne is gms last big sedan. It has tons of room inside, smooth ride and good performance with the 3.9l motor. Gas mileage is low in city driving (14-17 mpg) but good on the highway (24-27 mpg). The 2005 - 2010 buick lacrosse and lucerne models are the best used car value out there.

Big, beautiful Buick, the Lucerne. Roomy, comfortable, smooth and stylish. Last of the big ones from GM. Get a pampered, low mileage beauty and raise the Buick emblem high!

This car rides like a living room sofa! We averaged 29 mpg on the first long distance trip and the safety features are exceptional. At 71, eyesight and reflexes aren't as sharp as before, and the blind spot mirror warning and lane change beeps are very comforting.
