The 2008 Honda Civic Coupe adds a new trim this year, the EX-L. A slightly upgraded version of the top-of-the-line EX, the L represents standard leather trim for the steering wheel, heated front seats, and heated mirrors. The rest of the lineup (DX, LX, EX, and sports-oriented Si) remain the same for 2008. The Si features a 2.0-liter, 197-hp DOHC inline four with 6-speed manual, along with a sports-tuned suspension, larger 17-inch wheels, a larger rear spoiler, and Si badging. All the other trims are powered by a 140-hp, 1.8-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and choice of 5-speed manual or automatic.
A sleek, sexy redesign gives the coupe a more aerodynamic body, with a lower ride height (we didn't think the Civic's ground clearance could get any lower), rear spoiler, and smoother angles to its profile. The base DX starts with 15-inch wheels, ABS brakes, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, tilt steering, and power windows. Moving up the line adds 16-inch wheels, full power features, a CD player, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, and remote entry. The Si boosts performance and safety with traction and stability control. The cramped backseat feels even smaller than in the sedan, but the rear seats do split-fold onto a trunk that holds a surprisingly spacious 12 cubic feet.
What attracts owners to the 2008 Civic Coupe is the combination of looks with Honda's reputation for reliability, longevity, and cost savings. The Coupe rates around 26/34 mpg and earns top marks in both the NHTSA and IIHS crash tests, and most trims are available for under $20,000. There are some complaints about seat comfort, exterior road noise, and a rattling rear window. Otherwise, the fuel economy, crisp handling, and sound system rate well with owners.
4.7 Overall rating
(89 reviews)Great gas mileage. Very sporty. The engine revs like a motorcycle. Wonderful premium sound system. It has great options on the Si model. Has Honda quality. I would recommend this car to anyone other than someone with a large family.
Performance- By no means is this a fast car, nor is it slow, but it is really fun to drive. It handles and brakes very well. Also, during heavy acceleration, VTEC kicks in, making the engine rev high and providing a little extra boost. Quality- Very good quality all around, especially the stereo. Appearance- I think it looks great, and there are many additional aftermarket parts available for customizing. Cost of Ownership- $30 to fill up, 30 mpg city. Need I say more? All in all, a great, quality car that is fun to drive.
This car is absolutely phenominal. It drives beautifully and its so smooth. The pickup on this car is amazing, and the engine roars to life after 6K RPM (for those of you who don't know, that when the iV-TEC kicks in). My friend drives a 2004 Silverado SS, and I beat him on a 4th gear pull. this thing really flys. The interior is comfortable, and the bucket seats just suck you in and hold you as steady as a rock. It came in handy near where i live. especially going 85 through a very curvacious road. the mileage is really good for a sports car (21 city/29hwy). It took me 40 bucks to fill it on premium. out of a range of 1 to 10, i'd rate this car as a 20 on fun factor. Its just a flat out great car.
Pros: it's a Honda! I love coupes because they're compact, sporty and gas efficient. It's comfortable for short and long rides even with beastly kids in the back and plenty of leg room for them. It handles smoothly, has a large trunk space for extra crap, it also came with decent rims and even has navigation! All in all a fun car to drive.
Bullet proof drive train, dependable, a little bit of fun to drive. Awesome resale value. Great gas mileage. Paint sucks. If a bird so much as craps on the car, you can expect the paint to chip. Few other minor issues, but nothing that affects the performance of the car as a daily driver.
