Reviews found the cabin's quiet atmosphere conducive to hushed conversation and enjoyment of the surround sound stereo system. Like all Escalades, the ESV gets motivation from a 6.2-liter V8 that pumps out 403 hp through a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission. This combination garners a 7,800-pound towing rating - 100 pounds more than the regular Escalade. Reviewers rated acceleration as good, given the ESV's nearly 6,000-pound bulk. Of course, this all impacts gas mileage, which at 13/19-mpg city/highway seems average for this class. Yet, with all its weight and size, reviewers were pleasantly surprised at the ESV's relatively nimble handling. Based on GM's new full-size truck platform, the ESV handles like a vehicle of smaller proportions. With light and reasonably precise steering, reviewers also enjoyed the seating position and view afforded by the ESV's bodacious size.
