The best car for off-road & snow country. Great suspension and comfortable handling. Subaru has packed this outback with loads of power for off-road conditions. No repairs required. Great looking car. Awesome. Cost of ownership- of course fuel economy will be compromised by the 4WD but it's a trade off. No complaints. Fun to drive. Fun to stretch, fun to play.

Performance: Poor acceleration from stop; Subaru reps told me that a hesitation was built-in to protect the AT, that I should have bought a MT. Quality: Poor engineering; the slowest computer processing in a car I've encountered in over ten years (ie, the car is extremely slow to respond to its environment, such as when to shift, etc). Premature seat wear. Headrests throw head forward enough to cause neck problems; I've turned the headrests around backwards. ABS self-tests, causing a noise that Subaru claims is "normal," but Subaru reps blamed second gear solenoids even though it activated in first through third gears. Burning odor for the first three years resulted in a rear wheel bearing at my expense; dealers conveniently refused to acknowledge problem. Keyless entry fails most of the time; dealer acknowledged, but did not have a fix. Front disc brakes vibrate occasionally (for four years now); recently dealer acknowledge faulty caliper pin bushings, but refused to repair except at my expense. The only car I've owned that got lower fuel mileage than the sticker stated, and yet is one of the worst performing cars I've ever had. Several other problems. Poorly thought- out engineering, or the lack of it (eg, power outlets without power; built-in hesitation; absolutely pitiful AT shifting - I can shift a MT smoother, and still hold my Starbucks coffee; etc). I wonder if their engineers have ever driven reputable cars, so they can have some idea of what it should be like. They should drive a German car, especially.

I like it. good dependable solid car both interior and exterior look clean AWD and pleanty of cargo space in back. I like that its lower to the ground than my pathfinder and its easier to load grocieries and kids in the back. 7 more words for you is tough

Based on Legacy. I just wish it was manual, as Subaru's 4EAT transmission needs some general review. SAWD (handling & offroad abilities) and Boxer Engine are what I love the most. The car is very confortable. Perfect for longer trips. Also its increased groud clearance makes sense. The offroad abilities of the car pretty good. Only thing that should be improves is the rear LSD.
