Overview

Not your typical mud-encrusted off-road SUV, the 2007 Lexus RX 400h was a more refined, suburban-oriented luxury utility vehicle (as Lexus calls it) with a decidedly green pedigree, thanks to its hybrid engine. In its second year of production, the RX 400h received a few new standard features, including a 10-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and a larger LCD screen for the optional rear-seat DVD player.
But the basics of the RX 400h, including its 268-horsepower, 3.3-liter gas/electric hybrid V6 engine, remained unchanged. Since the standard RX 400 received an upgrade in horsepower to 270 for 2007, the hybrid was no longer the most powerful engine in the lineup, but it was certainly the most fuel-efficient, getting up to 32 mpg for the front-wheel-drive version and up to 31 mpg for the all-wheel-drive model. Although those numbers don't match miles per gallon for hybrid sedans, it's certainly an improvement over most SUVs.
The hybrid engine was linked to an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) that also helped improve fuel efficiency. Regenerative braking, which produces electrical energy as the brakes are applied to recharge the battery, was also part of the hybrid package.
The 2007 RX 400h met requirements that enabled it to be classified as a Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV), but it was the best of both worlds, also providing drivers with a wide range of upscale and luxury features, including brushed aluminum accents, steering-wheel-mounted controls for the audio system, leather interior trim, a one-touch moonroof, and options such as wireless Bluetooth capability, a Mark Levinson premium audio system, a backup camera, and a voice-activated navigation system.
Drivers noted that despite the RX 400h's hybrid engine, the SUV did not always deliver the expected fuel economy (mileage also decreased in the cold, some drivers noted). However, that was one of the few complaints about the vehicle. Drivers liked the RX 400h's safety features, smooth ride, good performance, and interior comfort. Overall, most drivers were pleased with their vehicles.

I adore this vehicle. My family has owned our RX400h since 07’ when my parents purchased it new and we drove it off the lot. It has been an absolute dream vehicle ever since. Reliable, comfortable, extremely well appointed, and a joy to drive. It is responsive, smooth, and has more than enough power to make driving it a genuinely enjoyable experience while still insulating you from the bumps, noise, and chaos of the streets outside. It has a very well insulated and quiet cabin that couples well with its stellar suspension system resulting in the aforementioned luxurious detachment from the world at large. And being completely I will admit that though we were NOT religious with our maintenance, we WERE reasonably regular with our oil changes, milestone appointments, and any repairs that were called for. Lexie, as we named her, has been steadfast and true her entire life, requiring minimal additional upkeep, and has never experienced, and I must emphasize NEVER, a major or even moderate equipment malfunction. No water pump failures, no brake cylinders, no radiators, or power window motors, no electrical issues, or problems with A/C, not a single issue to speak of AT ALL… I can not describe with words how blessedly reliable this car is. The construction quality and care put into its build is evident, and even after enduring years of daily driving, teenage pilots, and being passed on through the generations Lexie The RX400h has never let my family down. At this point SHE IS FAMILY TOO and we treasure her as we would any of our furry family members. She hasn’t cost a cent more than routine upkeep demands, and her hybrid efficiency has been a blessing at the pump these last few years. She’s sips her gas, never guzzles because she’s a lady, after all. But she’s so much more than just a well loved SUV! Her DVD system has soothed savage teen beasts on epic road trips through hill and dale. Her advanced electronics, navigation, and power systems have enabled camping, adventure, and exploration beyond your average “car.” Her moon roof has let music blast into cool spring nights, her tires have carried nervous prom dates, and her headlights have lead funeral processions solemnly across quiet streets. She has been present at births, graduations, anniversaries, and breakups. She has been a shoulder to cry on. Lexie had even been my home, when my life reached its lowest some years ago. This Lexus is more than a tool, more than a car, more than transportation. This Lexus has been a friend, family, and a blessing. I can not recommend this car enough.

It has what Im looking for in an SUV. Hybrid for cost and efficiency. Toyota is the best manufacturer for the past twenty years. Only some cosmetic issues along the way. It can last for 100Ks miles with good maintenance. Lexus gives a luxury interior and more safety features. The styling holds up over time.

I have a 2007 Lexus RX400h with 175,000 miles. Vehicle has been in south Florida its whole life. 90+ degrees most of the year and after 15 yrs. The hybrid battery is still 90%. Vehicle has been rock solid. Every single button and motor works like it should. I keep it garaged and maybe im lucky. I do see these around with over 300k on them regularly. Used batteries can be bought and installed for under $3k so, I say drive the wheels off of it.

Why should hybrid technology be limited to cars that are already economical? Here it helps significantly to make a relatively heavy and powerful luxury cruiser much more economical than it would otherwise be. This rig is beautiful and has a boulevard ride but has the high ground clearance and commanding driver view of an SUV. It is medium sized by SUV standards, easily seating five with full luggage, or the back seats fold nearly flat and it can become a cargo carrier. If that isn't room enough, it has a roof rack and a trailer hitch.
