After some minor changes in the 2005 Ion Red Line, Saturn made a few more for 2006. With Ion production scheduled to conclude in 2007, Saturn probably saw the end and started to pull back the reins. Enter the 2006 Ion Red Line, which features sharper handling around corners and better acceleration from a standing start due to a limited slip front differential. Otherwise, the Ion Red Line has maintained its basic identity as a sporty coupe on performance enhancers.
The 2006 Saturn Ion Red Line has a 2.0 L, 205 hp I4 engine with 5 speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption runs from 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. This coupe still seats 4 and keeps its unique 4 door design. Cargo space comes out to 14 cubic feet with standard features that include power windows, power door locks, leather seats, and ABS brakes. Options include traction control and sunroof.
While the Ion Red Line has attracted a market for tuner car enthusiasts, consumers still have the same issues they had with earlier models. More specifically, they would have liked to see more quality materials for the interior. Otherwise, owners enjoy the power under the hood and the low price tag. As production winds down for the Ion, Saturn continues to develop the line with an eye toward the future.
4.8 Overall rating
(7 reviews)very nice car with good pickup due to the supercharger which helps the ecotec engine put out 205 hp sounds great looks good handles very well traction control actually works
My first car with forced induction. This is an overall great car with many amenities. The biggest downside is the horrible resale value that comes with carrying a saturn badge. The engine is a work of art and totally makes the thrill of ownership outweigh the cons.
Fun to drive, with strong throttle response and a sporty exhaust note. It comes with Recaro seats that provide comfortable support in corners. 1/4 mile: 13.7@105
Fun to drive! Very well sorted out chassis with excellent road feel. Great sounding engine that pulls strongly.
Great handling. Powerful engine (vs its contemporaries). Comes with upgraded stock components in almost every category. The best deal you could get in this market segment at the time I bought it (2006)
