It gets lightly updated for the 2006 model year, with a refreshed exterior style that takes it a few steps further away from its smaller CR-V cousin. The Pilot is also offered with a front-wheel drive for the first time this model year, which lowers the cost of entry to the SUV.
The Pilot is targeted at new-car buyers that want a practical, dependable, and powerful SUV with the comforts of a true family vehicle. It competes with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner and Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Nissan Pathfinder. Honda offers the Pilot in three trim levels for the 2006 model year: LX, EX, and EX-L. All are available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, which Honda calls "advanced four-wheel-drive."
The Pilot is powered by a single engine for 2006—a 3.5-liter V6. It sends power to the wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The engine is equipped with a cylinder deactivation system that can disengage up to three cylinders to save fuel when not accelerating or pulling a heavy load.

We drove our Pilot for 8 years and put 151k miles on it. It drives very well, and the seating capacity is great! The OEM tires last a long time, but their wet traction is horrible. I replaced with Michellins, and they are 10 times better. Fuel economy is good for an 8-passenger car. The reliability is typical Honda. The car never broke down or left us stranded. Repair costs are reasonable. Buy your factory parts from a Honda dealer online and save a ton of money.

Affordable, Great family vehicle, Comfortable, Reliable, (RES) DVD system-great for family with young children, power outlets for electronics, all around room inside vehicle, Heated driver and passenger seats, Satellite radio, 4WD, Child safety locks, Climate control, Audio-upgraded sound system.... I have thoroughly enjoyed this vehicle

Great overall vehicle. Great gas mileage for the SUV class. Plenty of room in the cabin for the driver and passenger. You can really stretch out on a long trip. Have taken cross country trip with the car loaded and it handled great and power was still there. Can fit 8 people in this ride. Back seats fold down, I fit my 47" flat screen in here when I bought it. Back compartment where head rests can be stowed is easily made into a nice little tailgate accessory, just add ice.

Really enjoyed my pilot, but my family outgrew the vehicle, we travel a lot and needed additional space and captain chairs. Had to revert back to a minivan. The pilot is so reliable and drives well. Never had a single problem with it.
