The Kia Sedona minivan is set for a major redesign in 2006, so the 2005 Sedona gets few updates, aside from larger rear brakes and optional captain's chairs for the LX (standard on the EX). The Kia Sedona has been a mixed bag for owners. While it offers a lot of storage options, comfortable seats, and a price tag below comparable or even smaller minivans, it has encountered many repair problems, most notably the early wear and tear on inadequately-sized brakes in such a heavy vehicle. The heavy build makes it feel sturdy, and it does get 5 stars from the NHTSA for front crash and rollover protection , but at the same time rates an average on rear and side impact from the Insurance Institute.
Kia's terrific 10-year powertrain and 5-year basic warranty covers most of the repair problems. And both the LX and EX models offer a lot of standard features at a price affordable to families on a budget. Stocked with plenty of cupholders, a fold-out tray table, four power outlets, rear climate control, an optional DVD system, and three rows of seats that all recline and move back and forth, the 2005 Kia Sedona is a comfortable family-mobile. Though it does not offer power sliding doors, the manual ones are light enough to not be cumbersome. Seats do not fold flat, but can be removed, albeit awkwardly. The EX offers power front seats, power rear quarter windows, and more luxurious-looking leather and faux wood trim. Leather upholstery and a sunroof are optional only on the EX. A roof rack is standard on the EX, but available as an extra on the LX.
Despite its heavy weight, 2005 Sedona owners report good acceleration thanks to a smooth 5-speed automatic and 3.5-liter, 195-hp DOHC V6 engine. The biggest draw on the Sedona is its price and standard features, though families like its safety ratings, the comfortable seats, and the almost car-like handling. Though cargo room with the seats folded up can be small, there are a lot of compartments conveniently placed throughout the minivan. Drawbacks include a heavy rear liftgate that's hard to close, lousy gas mileage (15/20 mpg), rear visibility impeded when the DVD screen is down, plastic materials that show dings and scratches, and a wide turning ratio.
3.5 Overall rating
(14 reviews)The Sedona is an affordable, well-built and reliable van. It handles very well and has a surprising amount of power. The 3.5L V6 can sound downright sporty under hard acceleration. The Sedona is very comfortable for long trips and quite versatile. The standard 6 speaker AM/FM/CD sounds really good, and most controls are logically placed and easy to use. The fit and finish is quite good, trailing Honda and Toyota by only a model year or two. Some plastics feel and look cheap, but all are durable. The cloth used on the seats and door panels is very nice quality, and the highly-adjustable driver's seat is appreciated. While the Sedona may not stop traffic, it is a nice looking van and, because it's not as big a seller as Caravans and Siennas, it has a little bit of a quirky side. Lastly, the Sedona gets top safety and reliability marks, so that's always comforting.
we love this car. Its great for family trips, shopping around town, taking our children to their extra activities that are after school. This is one of the best vans we have ever owned. What can I say..... we just love our Kia.
I like this for its big and enough room. But it's noise annoys me a bit. and it consumes gas a lot.. but still, it's a good mini van for a homy driver :) well.. If u have a family of more than 5, consider having this one~
I like what I've read. Sometimes I've read negative reviews. It's mostly about the Sedona brakes. I gather that the weight of this vehicle is the cause of the brakes having a short life span.
it accelartes well but in my opinion you have to puch the brake pedal pretty far before it starts tyo slow the van and it dosent turn very sharp but for a mini-van its pretty good i wouldnt mind haveing one
